Yes, Gmc had them factory in '67 but this is a chevy so its not original to the truck. I wonder if GM would even do it on a special order back then?

I'm curious what wheelbase this truck has, was it made from a K20 (127") and extended a few inches?

I think with the way gas prices are I will go with a nice rebuilt 350 and a turbo 400 or a 700r4 auto

so on my last post I said I was going with a 350 well ive been doing some research and I wanted to ask you guys what you thought those industrial v-6es were in the big truck of the time and was told they had tremendous torque and were pretty much indestructible now the displacement is the same (or close to it ) as a 305 v-8 now what do you guys think the v-6 will do with an nv4500 behind it ? and will it sound like one of those rice burners with duals on it ??

You'll want to do the HEI conversion and a holley 500 to get the best performance out of the 6. They are low rpm engines so overdrive would be a good thing if you want to cruise over 55mph. Search GMC v6 on youtube, there are some with audio on there that will give you a feel for the sound. also check out the following link for a tond of V6 info

It is a 305 V-6. 351's have a different intake manifold and were not offered on any 4X4's. Really unique truck, I hope you restore it.

They all start off as projects for someone along the way. All I can say is that my truck drives down the road great with the long wheelbase. Since it was a GMC when it was built it has leaf springs in the rear and I converted it to a 1/2 ton.

If you blast the cab I would love to see the pictures on the build of the cab as mine looked like a Frankenstein cab.

hey extd56 heres what im workin with when I replaced the floor pan in my 69 they sent me a floor pan that was angled where it meets the fire wall but I needed a flat piece when I order the floor pan from lmc or where ever do I need to tell them something special for the order ? I said 1969 but I got the angled piece let me know k thank you

see the "line" where the spot welds are for the floor pan and fire wall is on both of mine its straight across but they sent me a floor pan that was angled down at the ends do I need to just cut the new floor pans and make them straight ??

also I wanted to ask you guys I have a eastwood 110 welder with .035 fluxed core wire I am in college trying to take tig welding and I ask my welding professor he said I should go to .030 with gas because the .035 fluxed core is to hot, what do you guys think

As far as the mig wire sizes go I would recommend trying the 0.024" wire. The metal you will be dealing with will be very thin.

A 478 might be rarer than hen's teeth. Rear engine bus or maybe vintage motorhome. I've seen 1 in a church bus about 25 yrs ago. Their other bus had a 479. Anyone know why the 2 displacements? Similar to 396-402?

The V-6 originally came in 305, 351, and 401 cubic inch displacements. In 1962, GMC introduced the 478 which had a longer stroke than the others. They stayed with those 4 sizes until 1973 when they used the 478 crank in the 351 and 401, which created the 379 and 432. I have never heard of a 479 V-6.

I agree. Shielding gas would be better as well. Makes for cleaner welds.

ok so I got my doner truck 98 Chevy 3/4 ton 5.7 350 with a factory 5 speed I want to be able to tow a 5th wheel trailer but the bed is wood I don't want to make it look bad but at the same time I want to maybe tow a 5th wheel any advice ?
