Help Identifying Parts Found In 305e Oil Pan

I have been doing some maintenance on my '66 and found two pieces in my oil pan after I took it off. One appears to be a clip of some nature and the other piece is a partial chunk of something that is made of either hard rubber or plastic. Any idea what either of these things might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure on the rubber part. The wire piece looks like an inner valve spring.

That's what I initially thought but it doesn't appear to be a piece of a broken spring. Both ends just have a "sharp" point that appears to be manufactured. Almost looks like some sort of retaining clip. I thought it might be a wristpin circlip, but o can't find any that resemble it online.

I'd be pulling both valve covers and inspecting all the valve springs, the rubber looks to be from an umbrella seal. Any engine noise?

Nothing that stands out. I'll be underneath it today working so I will inspect the bottom-up and then pop off the valve covers to inspect.

Re: Help Identifying Parts Found In 305e Oil Pan

I'd be willing to bet that is a broken wrist pin clip. Was your engine ever rebuilt? If so they may have used the wrong clips. I had the same thing happen to my 305. Found the broken clips in the pan. Unfortunately for me, when the clip broke, the pin moved back and forth and gouged the cylinder. I had to have a sleeve installed.

I don't believe the engine has ever been rebuilt. I guess inneed to figure out exactly what a factory wrist pin looks like. This definitely doesn't look like a portion of a part. It looks like a complete piece with the ends formed like those of a hog ring.

I did some investigating tonight and if I am interpreting things correctly, it looks like the wristpin for a 305e is 1.24". Looking at pics online, it definitely looks like a wristpin clip, but the size is throwing me for a loop. The O.D. of this circlip is around 5/8" and looks like it would go into a recess that was around .595" O.D. x 1/16" wide. I can't think of any other areas in the engine that would use this type of clip...?

Re: Help Identifying Parts Found In 305e Oil Pan

I believe I locating source of "plastic/rubber" piece but I am unsure of what the object is. Appears to be a plug of some sorts on front/bottom of block that covered by oil pan.
