Just curious

I normally hang out on the '47-'59 board as I'm building a '48 Chev extended cab. On Monday I'm going to look at a '70ish Chev 3/4 ton I heard about today. It is a 2wd w/factory 396, 4 speed, tach and is supposed to be in good shape. I'm just curious if this was a common combination. I found out about it from a buddy that just found a '71 that has been in an old guys shed for 30 years. It is 2wd, 350/350, factory tach, has 65,000 original miles, 0 rust and needs paint due to volcanic ash on it. He picked it up for $1,200.

that 3/4T sounds interesting to me just due to the 4 speed behind a big block... I don't really think that is a rare combination but it has a very cool factor to it...

The 71 I would be all over... that is my kind of "barn find"...

Re: Just curious

Volcanic ash on a rust free truck sounds like it could have an interesting patina already

Re: Just curious

The 396 came in 68's and 69's. The 402 was in 70, 71, 72's. Yeah, they're essentially the same engine. Just say'n to possibly help you. I no expert, but I've never heard of a 4 speed behind a 396....

71's and 72's always catch my eye, since they all have disc brakes. No swapping needed.

Everyone has their own idea of a build. I have no use for a 3/4 ton. I'd convert it to a half ton, going front disc.

KEEP US UPDATED!!!

Re: Just curious

I've been playin phone tag with them due to work schedules. I'm considering a 3/4 ton because we have a 31 foot airstream trailer.
