Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

Before you "polish" clean it or treat a chrome bumper you gotta make sure it's fully cleaned. Best way to start is to scrub it down with a SOS pad next time you wash it it's got cleaners built into it and won't scratch your bumper anymore than it already has.

I like using steel wool. Just make sure you use the fine stuff, not the course stuff or it could scratch. Also, only use on real plated chrome metal, not cheep plastic chrome or aluminum, or it will scratch.

Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

Might be easier to just get a new bumper if steel wool won't clean it. I've steel wool'd some really nasty bumpers with surface rust or painted chrome, and they looked new after.

Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

Hmm interesting. Maybe has something to do with your climate? Or maybe it was a bad plating job.

Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

How old is the bumper with this foggy look? If its original to the vehicle getting it shiny new wont happen because of age and use.

My experience is that the foggy will not come out of the chrome and you will always have a little haze in your bumper.

In my experience with chrome if fine steel wool doesn't work, nothing will.

Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

can you post a pic? im not sure what kind of foggyness you are talking about.... Have you used Blue Magic or Never Dull polish?

my bumpers were real foggy when i got mine and after a few good washes with heavy dish soap and a few coats of polishing with blue magic she is starting to shine up. if i had my buffer for polishing im sure i could get them looking almost new again

Re: whats the best way to clean up a foggy chrome bumper

Anything that will polish is abrasive and in the long run, you will be able to see the scratches in the chrome. I have even used toothpaste as a poish in my past.
