I think there is a pretty good sized thread on here dedicated to this subject. I can't remember the heading but someone will post that does...

Re: young people with old trucks

im 21 and i just got my 71 but its just a summer truck. ever since i got that truck i just want more and more, plus cant get enough of the old muscle cars. but a big part of that is because of my dad, hes had an old car since i was 5 or 6 and we always worked on it together and still do to this day. just cant get enough once you start.

Re: young people with old trucks

I am a Deputy with the Sheriffs Dept. here (don't hold that against me lol!) and am assigned as the school resource officer for one of the county schools. This means I get to eat lunch with the kids and go through their LMC catalogs with them. I see more kids here carrying their LMC catalog around school than I do their math book! It seems like every kid here in this area is driving a 60's or 70's Chevy or Ford. We have one kid that has one of them Dodge lil red wagons with the pipes up the back of the cab. I think my whole day consists of hearing stories about how they were burning out on some county road and the State Troopers gave them a ticket lol! Anyway, here at least there is a strong base of these kids with these trucks. The part I love the most is they can bring them into the auto shop during the day and the teacher tinkers with the engine with them. You can guess where I spend most of my day. I think it's great that these kids can still get their hands on an engine that hasn't been taken over by computer systems and mess around with it. Most of them seem to get their trucks off their family farms and they have the great story of having been passed down from grandpa, to dad, to them.

Yep nothin better than getting a little grease on your hands making your truck run or sound better. I wish it was more like that up here in canada but its not. All it is is then city kids with the stupid tuners, but everyone is there own.

Re: young people with old trucks

I've always driven old vehicles.I'm just not young anymore .When muscle cars were new I liked '50s and earlier stuff.I wasn't into store bought performance...imagine that! I bought a new truck and now that's 19 years old!
I like to see younger guys into older stuff.I was the young guy once and had many older guys take me under their wing. Now it's my turn.(BTW, I'm not old! )

Re: young people with old trucks

American Muscle all the way! The ford was bought new in 1970 by my great grandfather and has been handed down to me. I drove it to high school and college in the winter. The chevelle i drove through high school and freshman year of college. Sold the chevelle gave the money to my dad for his silverado and in the same summer bought my 72 k20! (that now has a GMC body) I am 22 and never understood why people put money into POS imports!

Re: young people with old trucks

I think it is amazing how many kids do drive these trucks. A 1967 truck is 43 years old. WOW, when you think about it. That would be like someone who was in high school in 1965 driving a car from the early 1920’s. That didn’t happen a lot, OR DID IT? I think my dad graduated @1965 and a old car to them was one in the late 1940’s to mid 50’s. That would be like kids today driving a 1995 truck. I recently sold a 1996 Tahoe and that was just barely broken in.

My first ride ever in 1988 was a 1978 SWB 454 Silverado ( still hooked on big blocks 22 years later) I remember thinking how ancient that truck was when I was 16. Funny how things change, I would consider a 10 year old truck LIKE NEW today.

Re: young people with old trucks

Im 19, when i graduated at 16(homeschooled through high school)i started looking for cars. I came across a 70 nova frame up restore with a healthy 350 4 speed, the car was flat black with chrome rims the stance on it was awesome, the guy wanted 4500 for it i told my father thats the one i want but he said theres no way in hell im letting you get a car like that for your first car(because of how he was at my age) so then i went looking again and found a few more muscle but they werent nothing special but then i came across a 1970 duster that was in mint condition with no rust or anything and had a 6 cylinder motor in it which was great because my dads favorite car when he was younger was his 70 duster with a very very healthy 318 that he got into a lot of trouble with but this one had a small motor in it so i figured he wouldnt care but found out it still was a no lol and ended up for my first car getting a 2000 olds intrigue which is next to impossible to fix when it breaks and now is my daily beater. When i turned 19 i decided i wanted a truck like these(i grew up riding in a 71 cheyenne of my fathers and my grandpa had one to). So i started looking and started debating back and fourth between muscle car or truck and found several muscle cars for great prices but i wanted a daily driver that was practical and my love for these trucks just couldnt be matched no matter how fast or cool those cars were i wanted a truck so i started looking and found a 1969 chevy c20 that the guy did a frame up restore for 6900 and now it sits in the shead for the winter but will be my daily driver in the summer once i do all the stuff i want to do to it. My next daily driver in the winter will be a 67-87 chevy 4x4 because i want to be able to beat on it and know itll stay running and easy and cheap to fix(winters around here are kinda hard on cars. Sorry this is kinda long

Re: young people with old trucks

Around here in the rusty midwest, any of these older vehicles that are still mostly complete and somewhat drivable are not "affordable" to younger drivers. Later squares, maybe, but not the older stuff.

When I owned my first '69 Camaro, it was "just a 10 year old car"

Squares are poplar here as well. I have a bunch of friends with them and I am the only on with a 67-72 style truck. By the way I am 18 with a 68 chevy 4x4 and I have had it since I was 15. My daily is a 2001 GMC seirra with 200+ thousand miles. Matt

I have 3 grandsons that are into old cars and trucks. One of my twin 16 year old grandsons drives a '73 Malibu he and his father built. The other twin drives a '63 Chevy car he and his father built. Another one of my grandsons just bought a '64 Impala he is starting to restore.
