Who's running a 6 cyl?

Hello folks,
who is running a 6 cylinder in their short bed? What are your thoughts on it?
I am looking and learning right now and see lots of 6 cyls available.
For me, I won't be towing anything or racing. Just a cruise and light hauling truck.
Thanks!

Re: Who's running a 6 cyl?

I believe there are quite a few of us running 6's in our old trucks. I believe there may be a 6 cyc. club out there also. Mine has a factory 250 with the 350 turbo trans in it. Mine runs good but is getting tired, so I've rebuilt a 292 for it and going to install it along with a 200-4R before to long. I'm happy with the six in mine, but I am going to lower it a bit, install disk brakes, and move gas tank to rear. Everyone has a little something they want to do to personalize there vehicle.

Re: Who's running a 6 cyl?

its real hard to find a good block that can be overboard without sleeveing it . these engines are bad about wearing out the first 2 cylinders because of them running hotter than the rest. I,ve run em since 71. I,d buy a 6 truck, run it till motor goes bad then do a v-8 swap personally. I went thru 5 292,s to find 1 that would clean up and still had to go .040 ob.

Well... Ive been running the stock 250-6 since I bought the truck for $800 back in 1996.

I've put 100,00 miles on it since and see no reason to change. God knows how many mile it had on it when I bought it.
