Loss of bond between biased belts will do it also. Had exact same symptom on my 04 Escape with Nokian tires. Switched with tires/wheels from other car and problem followed tires

Yeah, it just feels like a tire problem to me. A U-joint would clunk.

This feels like the torque between the wheel and the road is slipping something and getting the rear tire/s temporarily out of balance.

I suppose I should park it on the grass sometime before it snows again and yank around on the driveshaft.

Re: Tire problems ?

Well, I won't know until I get it back from the shop and drive it again, but now I'm thinking it wasn't a tire problem after all

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=817301

Transmission self-destructs at only 76K miles.

I actually thought the transmission was slipping at first.
Maybe I should have listened to my first instinct

Re: Tire problems ?

If you look on current truck forums like this:
https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/top...ration-issues/

You will see the 2014+ had a bunch of issues with vibration, some are transmission/torque converter related others are driveline or rear axle related.

I bought my 2014 with 47k on it and it would shake severely at 65+. I finally had one of the rear axles replaced and that fixed it.

I have had several problems with the truck in a short time. Peeling paint, fuel filler issues, screws falling out under the dash and some others. This is my first newer Chevy and I am disappointed.

Mine was dead smooth at 70 mph

I started a thread about this prospective purchase in the 07+ forum last spring and was given encouragement to go ahead.

I wanted a nice GMT400 but I needed it now and didn't want to spend a year or more completely reconditioning a 30 year old pickup with 300K miles.

Re: Tire problems ?

Rumble strip randomly driving is exactly what the failing transmission in the 2017 colorado with 20k on it we have at work feels like. Getting warrantied right now. Apparently they have a service bulletin that the trans fluid is wrong from factory and try flushing first.

Wow! Have no idea if mine is factory fluid. Supposed to go 150K/100K normal/severe but it sure looks red and clean. I think maybe they changed it before they sold it to me - they said everything was fresh.

Of course little too late to try that now with the pan full of broken pieces

On the good side I guess I don't have to buy new tires

If that is the 8 speed transmission that is what made me trade off my 2017 GMC Sierra SLT. Lived the truck but even after the tsb I still had a clunking 1-2 shift at low speeds and shuddering at times. I’ve been following the class action lawsuits around that transmission and GM’s response is that it’s an engineering design flaw and their warranty covers material and workmanship not bad design. That’s poor workmanship to me and I’ll not get into another new GM product if they maintain that stance. Buddy just spent $6k replacing his 8 speed transmission.

"Doesn't cover bad design!?" Just wait until there is a personal injury lawsuit because of that bad design. The fecal missiles will be hitting the rotating blades, and attorneys will be throwing the missiles, guaranteed. Smart money is to make it right, just like some tire company didn't many years ago, much to their chagrin. *cough*Firestone 500*cough*

Re: Tire problems ?

I have a 2016 with the 6 speed. I love the truck but I never liked the way that it shifts. I have 75000 miles on it and no problems yet. Some times when you accelerate gently from a coasting speed it clunks. My wife's Cadillac Xt5 does the same thing. It's going to the shop next week as we are getting close to the Warranty running out.

I was actually liking mine when it was working right

This is the first a/t I've ever driven that when you let off the gas going down a hill it doesn't just shift up to the highest possible gear and run away with you. The 2016 will just about hold whatever speed you were when you let off the gas. I started getting used to it then last summer I drove the twin screw Navistar tender out on a fire and I forgot that the 5 speed Allison didn't do that! Fortunately it has good brakes!

Also, going up a hill if it has to downshift the six speed will stay down there until you get to the top instead of hunting back and forth all the time. But with my 4runner I've learned that when it drops out of OD on a hill to pull it over to S (select) to keep it in 4th gear until it levels out.

Last summer towing the u-haul home with the pickup I forgot all about the tow/haul mode, but it seemed to do just fine. (except for that occasional rumble/vibration!)

Sometimes when starting off I nurse it a bit just to get out of that low first gear before accelerating. But if yours is starting to "clunk" then that doesn't sound good

Re: Tire problems ?

I guess this sort of thing is why we have four vehicles for two drivers.

Two 4x4 pickups and two 4x4 SUV types.

Yup. We have 5. And my Wife is not bringing the Caddy in until Thursday because that's when they will have a loaner available for her. The last time they gave her an Escalade with a sticker of $102,000.

Actually, we have five but the 76 GMC hasn't been started in several years because it started burning oil like crazy. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it?

So we have four insured vehicles

Seems like I always have a list of vehicle problems to worry about and/or get fixed
