Re: Blazer SPID thread?

Nice highly optioned trucks. Red one had everything. Don't see manual throttle very often.

Nice blazer evan. Highly optioned. How's the interior. Being a z84 truck I always like seeing the insides.

Re: Blazer SPID thread?

I wish I had a picture of my old 72's SPID... It was loaded but I don't recall ever reconciling its equipment with the sticker.
My recently acquired '69 CST doesn't have the right glovebox door so no SPID for me. It's a very interesting thread though and I've enjoyed it.

I do have a few questions after reading here though.

*I assumed at first that "removable top" and "auxiliary top" would be the same thing, maybe just from different plants- except I see that they have different codes.

*Does there seem to be any order to the way rpos are listed? It won't be "real" but I'd like to do my best to replicate a SPID with the options/colors that I see on mine

*I don't recall seeing a SPID listing cruise control. Was that an original option on 69-72s?

*I had at least one more question but I'll have to come back and edit it---

Thanks guys- Greg

The two aux. top codes to look for are Z58 White and Z59 Black not much else matters, St Louis had some real issues with SPID content, constistency and format.

Getting a reasonably accurate replacement SPID made is a matter of knowing what you have, what to look for in the vehicle's original build and referencing known SPIDs from the same plant and serial range. To me a guesstimated SPID based on about the level of verification most people would do for a for sale ad is worse than no SPID at all.

The only listing I show for factory installed cruise RPO K30 is for a 70 C/10 (4x2 Blazer) with a 350. While there were dealer cruise kits they would not be reflected on the SPID.

If you have another Blazer related SPID question, don't edit but simply post a new reply. Edits don't trigger a subscription notification.

Re: Blazer SPID thread?

Thanks SS Tim- looking back to post 90 (and others) there's an auxiliary top listed and it has a different rpo number. That's the type I was asking about. I still assume it's just a plant difference because I've not seen a different top---

Re: Blazer SPID thread?

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...9&postcount=90

Its a Z58 White top as expected. Go by the RPO number first, then worry about the decription. In this case its the same option different description.

If you go to:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=216

This is a very early build 72 from St Louis.
It also has the Z58 RPO code for a white top without description and on another line CB8 "REMOVABLE TOP" which is actually the build conversion code. It like several other lines on this early 72 SPID are generally not listed and are found only on the actual build sheet. St Louis again had a lot of issues with SPIDs.

Also if you right click on a post number, it will give you a single post thread link code that is easy to paste into a reply when refering to a specific example.

Re: Blazer SPID thread?

So is there a different code between the single wall top and the double wall top?

Is there a way you can tell the difference from the SPID?

To clear things up this is from GM dated January, 1972

"New Removable Top Assembly (RPO CC3) 1972 Blazer

A new (simplified construction) top is being offered to supplement the currently available (RPO CB8) top for Blazer models. The new top (RPO CC3) is a single skin design with three exposed interior roof rib reinforcements running from side to side, whereas the RPO CB8 top is a double skin design with inner roof panel lines running front to rear. Part numbers for the two tops are as follows:

RPO---Part No.--Color
CB8--6262051---Black
-------6262052--White

CC3--6271845---Black
-------6271846--White

Mounting of the new top differs from the earlier style in that attachment to the box is accomplished through floating anchors contained in the box sides (Fig.1). The top is then bolted from above making trim panel removal unnecessary.

New parts contained in the RPO CC3 top are:

* Side door glass weatherstrip and retainer (providing an adjustable weatherstrip feature).

* Thinner (1/8 inch) side glass and weatherstrip.

* Top to box weatherstrip.

* Seal and metal retainer around lift gate hinges.

* Top to box side molding and chrome plated hold-down bolts.

The lift gate and attaching parts, header weatherstrio, and header attachments are common to both tops."

Unfortunately unless you have a build (broadcast) sheet or one of the atypical SPID as mention in earlier posting you will not see the CB8 OR CC3 codes. Generally they are found only on the build (broadcast) sheet. There they indicate the conversion of the vehicle to a removable hard top. Where the generally seen SPID codes Z58 (White) and Z59 (Black) really only indicate the color and confirm a factory hardtop installation.

Tim - thanks for sharing this info. I had a guy from a local repair boat shop come by the house to take a look at my top. In the photos below I drew black annotation marks to call out, or confirm if these are the roof rib reinforcements running side to side? We were discussing these and neither of us could determine if this was factory or if this was a repair that happened at some point in time.

Thanks!
Mike

Re: Blazer SPID thread?

Pretty sure the roof ribs are up Top and not on the sides. It gives the top the strength it needs to support its own weight and not sag.

Man that truck had everything. Except had z84 package and ordered black vinyl seats. Should be highlander with that. Some of the blanks I'm wondering about though.
