Thanks Greg, I believe Tim's statement is only referring to the fact that the nomenclature on the SPID for the seat material was plant-dependent and it seems he was also stating that the use of the word Highlander in the seat material nomenclature could also be dependent on whether or not a package was ordered (i.e. sometimes "611 Custom Trim" vs sometimes "611 Blue Highlander Plaid," for example - and note that the word "Highlander" never appears in a Package truck YG_ RPO SPID's nomenclature) - so I don't "think" he was necessarily stating that the presence of a YG_ code was plant-dependent, but you never know. But also note that Highlander trim was available before the discount packages were - so an early model year Highlander could indeed have all the bells and whistles of a C package truck, but the buyer would have paid full price because the promo packages weren't available until the latter half of the model year.

Anyway, I'd love to see an owner of an Atlanta Highlander with a SPID like this share the original sales documents that show that the buyer indeed got the package $ discount (any chance VAPhil?) - otherwise, I don't think there's any way to know whether it was ordered with the package discount or if someone just checked the boxes for those options. Have we seen any such sale documents that prove the theory? I'd love to know.

Having said that, I've also never seen an Atlanta Highlander with an accompanying YG_ code ... and I've also never seen an Atlanta truck with the plaid seat code that had LESS than the full complement of YG8 options (i.e. "just" the seat, or "just" the A or B package, etc). But I also haven't seen many Atlanta Highlanders period, so still don't really know what I don't know .

Thanks again Greg, interesting topic!

Ok, more odd Highlander tidbit for which I have no idea the correct answer. It sure seems like a large % of Highlanders floating around out there are C20 Custom Campers. I'm curious if it was just coincidence that a LOT of people ordered them this way - or if perhaps a LOT of dealers ordered Highlander plaid along with the Customer Camper option and sold them off the lot like that (i.e. not customer orders). Whatever the answer, I'm glad whoever ordered them that way did so, because I sure like a nice C20 Custom Camper Highlander when I see one...

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Old thread but timely and just wanted to post some thoughts on a Highander that came up for sale on Marketplace. So looking at this truck with the green plaid bench and factory A/C, and intact which is surprising, tilt and looks like black dash pad and steering column and has the parchment door panels. So carpet has been changed from black to green and the DG4 mirrors are gone and of course wheel and tire changed. Thinking this is a YG8 Package Truck with some of the goodies removed. Truck is in Post 8916 in the Facebook Marketplace Thread..

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Does anyone know what option this seat is. It’s plaid however there is no vinyl on the seating area. It’s on a 1972, the pickup is a Cheyenne super. Sorry for the dark picture it was parked inside.
It may not be original, however I would like to know why it’s all plaid. I realize Cheyenne super was houndstooth. This truck has Blue interior

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

it's not a 72 seat cover - that is a squarebody plaid pattern circa 73-ish Custom Deluxe (below from a 73). Do not believe it's an actual original squarebody seat cover either - as you pointed out, no vinyl in the center like the 73 below - I'd assume someone used the 73-ish material to have a seat cover made for the 72 bench.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Thank you for your information. I had wondered if it came out of a suburban or like you said a newer seat cover. Someone must have made a seat. The vinyl is on the outer edge.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

LL Bean catalog had a slight glimpse of a green plaid highlander.

Surprised this one hasn't sold yet. As nice a Highlander as your gonna find. It was posted in the Facebook Marketplace Finds thread a couple weeks ago. Link is for the Facebook Marketplace ad.

That is a nice one, but if I remember correctly Special-K said that truck was originally a c/20 that was converted to 4wd. I don't think I've seen a 4x4 highlander pickup on here through all the searches I've conducted.
No, Here's the story. I gave info I learned from another member here not long after I bought it in '04. He knew the truck from CO where it came from and knew the guy who did the work before the buyer who owned it between us. The truck was all original and very nicely kept, all original paint, which it still had when I bought it. It had an accident like a tree or something came down hard on or into the cab. This talented friend of his bought the truck and repaired it by using a donor Cheyenne Super C/20 which is the cab on it now. I bought it for being so rare because I have been an avid K/20 guy since these trucks were young and was heavy into collecting rare examples.
I thought I had this member's name, but when I later contacted him to get this guy who did the work's info, it turned out I had kept the wrong member's name. Their names were similar. I contacted Cheyenne10 in OR or WA by mistake. This was when I first joined the site in 11/04 and was unfamiliar with using computers. I bought the truck in July that year. So I lost the trail of ownership and hopes of fact finding on the truck. Therefore, I never pushed the truck's originality in threads like this. I didn't have what we all know is needed to bare the burden of truth. All I have is hear-say that I know is true. This guy contacted me and gave the detailed story. So I was fine, and so was my friend who bought it (a collector) with it just being a really cool K/20. The truck has a KE2 VIN, regardless. The previous owner did not take good care of it, it needed a lot of mechanical work and he dinged it up, had mismatched mirrors, wheels and tires, and broken leafs. But he paid good money. On the title it showed it originally had a lien for $11 grand. This would have been at least a couple years prior to '04. I paid half that for it and rebuilt the mechanics to have a nice driving truck with cosmetic wear

How about some rusty gold? (Interior shots are as found, prior to clean up).
