I hear ya on the seats. Both of the trucks I’ve had had pretty minty seats except for the driver’s buttprint. I never did replace Earls’s cover, just living with the rough driver’s side. It’s only original once and all that. Earl had vintage-looking blanket seat covers over top and I’m considering something similar for the new Suburban. I like the repair idea for Sweet Pea but wonder if the original material has faded to the point it would be tough to color match material. Can you get a sample of the OEM material in your truck and see how it matches? Repair is mucho better than replace, and any upholstery shop should be able to sew in a new panel.

Have I mentioned I love this truck? I do. It’s perfect.
Yeah It's awesome to have the family support the hobby (addiction? obsession?) I hear guys gripe all the time about the "Ol Lady" not approving spending $ or time on the trucks, but my wife has been into it since day one. I think Sweet Pea really won her over because everything works on it! It's easy to drive, no crazy tips or tricks to get her running. Also its not lowered... she hates lowered stuff, especially trucks lol! And don't get me started with the kids, they love the truck more than I do!

I assumed all squares came with some insulation under the hood... Mine is just starting to look ratty. It's one of those things, when you run out of big ticket items to fix or upgrade, you start nit picking... Good problem to have I guess.

Yeah I hear ya on the seat issue. I was able to get a sample of the material from SMS fabrics in oregon, but it's such a small swath that its hard to tell if the color would be far off. Even if its not 100% though I think I may go for it anyway, it'll eventually fade to the same color. I think I'll hit up the local shop and ask how much material they think I'd need to do the repair.

And THANK YOU! I appreciate the love! Sweet Pea makes me smile every time I look at her, glad to know its not just me!

I had a 69 Rambler as my first car (1976), we had owned it since it was new. My dad made 2 or 3 sets of seat covers for it the entire time we owned it. I sold it, like a dummy, in 1983 when i got my first new car. He used the old seat upholstery as the pattern. Cut the new fabric from the pattern and kept the old vinyl to re-use.

Just an idea.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

So I went and spoke with Ryan from Blue Line interiors, he said it'd be no problem to repair the single ripped panel. I just ordered up a yard of cloth and a yard of vinyl from SMS.

Should be here in a week or so! I'm excited for it. Its funny how the more you get your truck dialed in, the more the little things bug you... I'll be happy to not have a ripped up seat cover any more.

Also picked up an OEM factory woodgrain streering wheel from C10Unlimited on instagram. Really excited to get that thing in.

Also scored a nice OEM steering wheel. Time to swap out the old 70's camaro/vega wheel thats been on there...

And a few random pics... Sweet Pea with a visit from her pal Ol' Blue Jeans

Out doing truck stuff...

And another cool score from the Squarebody Syndicate crowd. Some killer artwork for the garage...

Lastly, the seat fabric and vinyl from SMS finally arrived, going to pull the seat in a few days and get it over to Blue Line interiors and hopefully have that panel patched up...

Nice steering wheel, by chance where did you find it? By chance is it sticky? (i guess those wheels were prone to getting sticky as they age, I know mine is a little sticky - I haven't tried the best "fix" yet on mine).

I bought it off a guy on Instagram. His handle is C10Unlimited.

https://www.instagram.com/c10unlimited/?hl=en

He lists parts from time to time. I received the wheel a few days ago but haven't had the time to mount it. When I pulled it out of the box it was not sticky at all, but it was also pretty cold out, I know when it gets hot or humid they can get a little gummy. Seller did caution to clean using ONLY warm water, no harsh cleaners or detergents... If it does end up being sticky I'm not opposed to adding one of these

I know it's not OEM, but I feel it falls into the category of "period correct upgrade" And I HATE getting the sticky black gummy crap on my hands.

I keep an eye out in the for sale section on here, they come through from time to time, a few passed by earlier this year. I held off because of the high price ($200+) but after a while I realized that's pretty much the going rate, unless you can score one in a junkyard.

There's a handful of threads on here about how to clean them or keep them from going gummy, but from what I've read it doesn't seem like anyone's found an absolute fool proof method...

Got a shipping notice from SMS fabrics a day or two ago, so l hope to have the rest of my order finally arrive. Then I can get back to repairing this seat!

Also been piecing together a spare wheel setup for Sweet Pea. I have wanted one in the bed for quite a while, but never found a good deal on the OEM in-bed mount. I ended up scoring one from LMC for christmas, and nabbed a decent hubcap at a scrap yard. Working on cleaning that up, then it'll be just a matter or ordering another wheel. I'm on the fence for the spare, whether or not to shell out the big $ for a matching Wheel Vintiques 16x8, or just go cheapo F$%^ E250 van wheel 16x7.

Here's my find from the junkyard. They were all pretty grungy but they'll clean up nice

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Finally got my seat done!!! So happy with the results. Ryan from Blue Line interiors does top notch work! SMS came through with the material, albeit 3 months later than expected.

Decided to recover the entire seat bottom, and since SMS only sells by the yard I had enough to do it. Ryan found and fixed some broken springs, re-welded a tilt pin and added new foam. The seat feels a million times better and looks fantastic!

Thanks boys! Yeah I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Moving on to the next projects: Finally bought a spare 16x8 from wheel vintiques, and working on the hubcap I found at the salvage yard. Hoping my tire shop will be open so I can get a tire mounted on it.

With it raining on and off a lot lately I've been narrowing down the leak I have going into the cab. It seems the water is pooling in the rear window slider channel, then since my truck is usually parked at a slope left or right, it'll travel to the low side and leak out of the channel and down into the corners. The seals and felt on the sliders look like they're in good condition, but it doesn't surprise me that they leak...

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

So now the question is how to remedy this? I don't want to replace the entire rear window, but I'm not sure how else to stop the leak? I like having the slider, its convenient to pass things through to the bed...
