I've got a 10" sub in a box behind the rear seat so that the sub fires directly into the rear of the seat. The rear of the seat is completely covered in vinyl that is only attached at the edges of the seat, so in the center of the seat the vinyl is a little loose. The sub makes this loose vinyl vibrate and it sounds horrible. Any of you guys had to cut out the vinyl on the rear, or how have you dealt with it?

I was running dual 12's behind my seat and had the same problems, what I did was cut 2 13" holes on the vinyl behind the seat right in front of the woofers and they would KICK! yeah it didn't look good when you folded the seat back up but what the hell it sounded and felt good on your back

I never heard it in either of my systems in the '85. Proper box design should limit/eliminate this. Regardless, the Vynil usually isn't taught enough to create any audible noise.

doesnt make any noise in my truck either, you could proably try pulling in the material tighter, or i think they shrink the material with steam but i could be wrong.

I had that problem in mine when I had the 10's behind the seat. I always thought about cutting the vinyl and making some kind of a frame to make it look decent. But never did since I took the 10's out and plan on getting rid of the bench, and since the new subs are going in the bed.

just put some speaker grills on and that should eliminate the flapping.

Speaker grilles wouldn't solve the problem I think because the vynil should still move quite a bit due to the air being displaced by the subs. I honestly couldn't tell you how to fix this other than using different material for the rear part of the seat back.

I have the "optional" gas tank back there. It makes no noise but is somewhat frightening.. It might new a new and interesting way to go...

Yeah I have a speaker grill, so that won't work. I guess its either cut out the vinyl, stretch it tighter (maybe I can get it to were the seat back acts as a huge passive woofer), or buy buckets. All I know is its dang annoying. Thanks everyone for the input.

I don't thin that stretching the material is going to solve anything, it may infact make it worse. Think about it like this: What makes more noise, a tight drum hat, or a loose one?

I would think if you can take the back loose and fill in the back of the seat with some foam or batting and then reatatche the vinyle that might keep it from vibrating.
