Ash Tray Delete

Has anyone seen an ash tray delete before? I seem to have one in my truck. It is a 68 C10 with the ash tray cover pop riveted to the dash. No SPID on the truck but I do have some pictures. Can't flip pictures.

Looks like they just used the ash tray face and pop riveted it in place.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

Appears to be attached by a means other than pop riveting. The head of a pop rivet would be visible on the face of the block-off plate wouldn't it? I think it looks more like a factory-installed delete plate, but I have to admit I have never seen an ashtray block-off before.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

I kind of doubt there was ever an ash tray delete plate. Too many people smoked in those days. Back then, I think they designed the "cockpit" around the ashtray of some cars

Looks like whoever did the body work and paint lob on that truck riveted that on and did body work to hide the head. It looks like the face was dimpled. Even trucks with cigar lighter delete have functioning ashtrays. The two go together like radio delete and antenna delete.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

Thanks for all the replies. I've had the truck since about 2000 and it was like that when we bought it before the paint job. Happy New Year everyone.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

I cant do anything till spring when i get it out but my 67C30 has the lighter delete and it looks similar to that without the cutting under it . I tried to pull out the stay and it wont budge. I thought you got the ash try if you ordered the lighter??? Mine also has the radio delete too.

Yours is a '67, right? Could be they did it back then. The '71 C/30 wrecker I had with lighter delete had a functioning ash tray. I've had others like that, too, but not a '67.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

I'm surprised this never came up before on here (that I know of). People are delete crazy here. I'd like to see a list of all the delete pieces these trucks could have had. Or, just how bare a base '67 Stepside could have been coming standard with no rh mirror or visor. Rear bumper was an option, but do delete panel

Your comment made me think of my old long dead, from emphysema neighbor. He at the time bought a new Ford because it was the only new truck that still had a wind wing to flick his ashes out of.

First I read Cleszkie's post yesterday and was going to say it, but now I will. I'm surprised there wasn't a wing vent delete (fixed pane) for the cheap company bosses to deprive their employees with.

It must have cost less to go ahead and put the ashtray in every truck.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

I am curious what covered the hole for the cig lighter. Mine has a black plastic cap that fits real good but i dont think thats correct . I am thinking it was a round metal one that was painted the same dash color or I just dreaming?? Sure miss my memory.

Re: Ash Tray Delete

What you have sounds correct. They were black plastic caps that plugged into the hole

I have a friend who was a city mechanic and he had to remove hoses from heaters in new trucks in the 70s/80s. No heat allowed. The thought was there is no need for you to be in the truck unless you are going from point A to B.
