Power Steering - ATF or Power Steering Fluid?

Bought a project 70 2wd Blazer - Power steering reservoir was empty - I'm sure it has a leak somewhere - unsure of hose/seal just yet and will need to fill it up to find out where it is coming from or if I just got lucky and it was drained.

I've heard use ATF and I've heard use Power Steering fluid.

Which is the best/correct choice here?

ATF / Dexron III is what I use. I have a reman box from Redhead and what they said to use.

Re: Power Steering - ATF or Power Steering Fluid?

I've been using Dexron ATF in all my vehicles' power steering for the last 40+ years.

I'm the odd man out and just use power steering fluid. LOL!

But if you're looking for a leak in the P/S system, it'll be easier to see the red dye of ATF.
