Neutral Safety Switch wiring question

We after a near catastrophe I need to get my neutral safety switch wired in. From looking at the wiring diagram I need cut the purple wire of the ignition switch. I would then reroute the circuit to the safety switch then to the ignition switch. Just want to be sure I splice into the right one.

Power goes from the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch then to the starter solenoid.

Ok, so wire opposite of the way I was thinking of doing it.

As for which wire to cut. On the plug in the picture is it the purple wire?

Purple is correct. I have to do this as I have a 4sp truck and it was converted to automatic. The harnesses were not corrected.

Thanks Smitty. Since I have to disect the wire harness I want to be sure I got the right one.

Back story
Grandson was playing in the truck. Knocked it out of gear. Normally this wasn't an issue as the drive shaft was out of it. Well this time the drive shaft was in. Went to start it and it jumped into reverse. Luckily it stalled.

I too had a close call on my 72 Auto this weekend. Still learning the truck, I am unsure where the safety switch is. Can someone give me a description of location and if they had a similar issue the repair they needed to perform? Seems odd a safety switch has failed. Column looks original and untouched. From the above picture, appears I'll be upside-down on the floor.

On a column shift automatic, the NSS is on top of the column. Semi-typical failure repair is to put in a jumper wire. That's OK if you know about it. I personally replace the switch. My family can't deal with anything out of the ordinary on vehicles.

When did these switches become standard? I have a 68 that is a manual an wondering if it has one, or if I should add one.

Well I got my NSS in. Not a hard job just a pain trying to solder those heavy wires. Not sure if it's adjusted right as the truck is still on jackstands. That's my way of making sure it's not in gear, a 2nd time, when I start it. Currently working on finishing up the brakes. Once that's done I can test the switch and adjust it if I have to.
