Tail light wiring

So the 70 c10 I have, has a 3 wire tail light, the oem connector I ordered from lmc truck has 2 wires. On the truck 1 wire runs to 1 connector and the other 2 wires run to the other connector. So I'm wondering why the oem connector from lmc truck only has 2 wires when the one that came with the truck has 3?

Re: Tail light wiring

Tail should have 4 wires. Start at the plug by rear driver tire. Google c10 tail light wiring

Re: Tail light wiring

I'm focused on the brake light not the reverse light. So on the brake light connector it has 3 wires, 1 goes to a plug and 2 go to the other plug on the connector and the oem plug I got off lmc truck only has 2 and doesn't have the other wire. So I might have to modify it to accommodate the 3rd wire it has on the truck. Just seems weird that an oem plug just came with 2 wires.

Re: Tail light wiring

Here's the wiring diagram for the tail lights.

The left light has three wires, one for the brake/turn and one for the tail light plus one for the license plate light.

The right light has two wires, the dark green for the brake/turn and the brown one for the tail light.

Both lights ground through the sockets to the frame as does the license plate light.

Re: Tail light wiring

Thanks for the diagram, I went to the junk yard and looked at some 70 c10s and they had the 3 wire brake light as well but on all the ones I looked at the wire was not connected like they had been cut and only had 2 of the 3 wires connected. Kinda weird. But I appreciate the diagram. It helps

Re: Tail light wiring

Gm just used that spot to run the licence plate light.
2 wires is what you need, you can run the license plate wire from anywhere on that brown circut
