New bush buddy
a few weeks ago my boy Dieseldawg passed away.
we still miss him hugely and i truly wish he was still around. even though we're very sad about losing him, we are dog people thru and thru and can not stand coming home to an empty house without fur and tail wags to greet us we had planned all along after Diesel's passing we would have to get more mutts, just was not expecting so soon, but when i saw a rottie/lab rescue pup, i could'nt help myself....in fact, i can't help myself at all...lol, we are now the proud owners of 3 new puppies, but my rottie/lab rescue can't come home yet for another 10 days or so, they were abandoned at the side of the freeway, and they figure their approx 4-6 weeks old. they have them on a surrogate mom for a couple more weeks, then she comes home.. but in the meantime 'till she gets to her fur-ever home, we dragged these silly strays home.. as we always have 2 big dogs, momma wanted a small lap/house dog, so here's Mo, an 8 week old chihuahua. he's a pretty skitish little guy right now, but he will get comfortable and settle in, no doubt. and for our other big dog beside our rottie/lab, we got this big lunk, he's a pyrenees/rottie/lab, and he's a handful. He's 9 weeks old and weighs 28 lbs already....hmmmm, shades of my 260 lb massie Dixie-Lou. right now he's all feet.. untill my rottie/lab girl comes home, these 2 are partners in crime...only a week in age, but a world of difference in size..lol feels good having having puppy-chows around the house again |

Re: New bush buddy
"Big Lunk' Sure looks like he's going to be a big boy. But don't be surprised if the Chihuahua rules the roost. We just lost our 19 year old Chihuahua and even at that age she pushed the bigger dogs around. They'd clear out of her way if they saw her coming.

Re: New bush buddy
Congratulations on the new family! Do you have any names in mind for these guys? I like FleetsidePaul’s Big Lunk! My wife and I were remembering a Leave it to Beaver character the other night and couldn’t help laughing. How about Lumpy! Or a mix of the 2 Big Lump? You could always let the board help you decide with a poll....

Re: New bush buddy
thanks guys!
really enjoying having the big lug kicking around, he fits right in. good therapy after losing Diesel. as he came from a farm, he had NEVER been outside or even out of the barn stall he was born in, so it's pretty cool watching him explore this great big world of ours, he's very curious and has to stick his snout in, up, or threw everything... house training has been super easy, only had one p accident on the floor so far, he lets us know when he wants out. still looking for that "just right" name for him, in the meantime we have been calling him monster, or more often- Rumble...cause he rumbles around the house like a 30lb bulldozer...lol later today i will be taking him for the first time to Diesel's favorite haunt, the river. got a feeling he might also be a "waterhead", prob not as much as Diesel was, but we'll see, he really likes to explore so i'm hoping he'll be a good bush partner. mom's rat dog Mo is not so big on exploring and likes to just hang with the wife when he's not playing with rumble. we think the guy he came from may have been not nice to him, he is pretty nervous around full grown men, but not my son. you can tell he wants to socialize with me, but he shakes and gets flirty when he's around men. time should take care of that once he trusts me and sees nothing but fun and love is what i bring...and if that don't work....well i feed him, that should bring him out of his shell can't wait to see how they do when my girl rottie/lab comes home, hoping i can get her at the end of the month Quote:
only had him a few days and he's up to 31 lbs already---hoo-boy! can he ever pack away the groceries.. bought him a bed, waste of money...bought a couch cover cause he seems to think that's his bed. talk about legs and feet |

Re: New bush buddy
He looks pretty comfortable, when my black lab came into my life,he was running wild for about 3 years, used to come by my house, growl and bark at me,couldn't even get close, finally with time he got closer to me and could give him a cookie, the one day he came right up to me and sat down and looked up at me and said, take me with you and now he lives in the house, travels 1000 miles between houses, and won't leave my side,it all takes time.

Re: New bush buddy
ya, food is the great equalizer...lol
Moe is settled right in now and acts like he owns the place...as does Rumble... he sleeps wherever he absolutely feels like it...don't matter what anybody else thinks... even though both Rumble and Moe have made this home, there was still something missing... and here is the missing link... this is Roxy and she's almost 8 weeks old. she is a rottie/lab just like Dawg was, and a real sweetheart. only had a couple days, but she fits right in, Rumble and Moe love her... (dirty dawgs!...lol) only a couple weeks apart, but again a world of diff in size, Roxy should catch up to Rumble soon she got under the bench in my shop today... many a sleep-less nite around here the last week...lol, but would'nt have it any other way |

Re: New bush buddy
half a yr and been a few changes...
Rumble will be 7 months in a couple weeks. he still eats like a horse...weighed him last week, 109 lbs he's got big feet. big as my hand still totally puppy, but he is training real easy. what could be more tempting than a bag of bones...right at his height... but he never touched them till i give him the ok but if he gets bored, he just takes what he wants anyways... Roxie will be 6 months pretty soon, she's the real instigator around here. she's always getting Rumble in heck...she goes for spaying tomorrow, maybe it might slow her down a tad. she's more normal size and weighs 48 lbs and Moe is Moe, he has'nt changed much, still the runt at 10 lbs |

Re: New bush buddy
I hate to disagree. But dogs are the greatest. Pups are a pain in the @$$.
My German Shepard is about the same age and... So far he has: Destroyed my couch and two chairs. He ate my remote control Ripped up my wifes new $50 sandals and a pair of my Nike's. Chewed up a rug Cr@pped and pee'd in the living room. Chewed up my baseboard in my hallway. He's learned how to open closed doors by himself so he goes into the bathroom even if the door is shut and rips up all the toilet paper. It's a mess. Dieseldawg. Those are some good looking pups. I hope that you're having less problems than I am. Especially since the big fella can get to the counter now. Nothing is safe. Ask me how I know.

they've got a laundry list of eatens so far: 6 pairs of shoes, including wife's $300 riding boots all the landscape ties around wife's garden chewed the poles on the boathouse ate 5 beds so far couple weeks ago Roxie "ate" a jar of my model super glue, she had cardboard and blanket stuck to her chops for a hour or so before we could remove it.... all kinds of misc auto parts off the shelfs in the garage seat off the kids old bike pretty much destroyed wife's lilac bushes...heh heh but they have reserved most of their energy for the back yard and the fence. backyard has about 15-20 holes dug in it, pretty much no grass left, and Rumble is the same as your shep, he opens doors with his paw, or as he has learned, if he leans on something hard enough, it gives...(the side fence) not really complaining though, these 3 have'nt equaled the damage Dieseldawg did as a pup-approx 7 G's... my yard has holes all over it, some are a couple feet deep, and you can see the new side fence i had to install after Rumble "leaned" on it. i give up filling holes, they see me fill them and they figure their mission is to empty them, so i'll just wait till the digging stage has passed before i fix. wife's riding boots a pair of my slippers that i still use Roxie has an affinity for cardboard in my shop. box of coil nails partially eaten, and further down a box of spikes and of course there is a bunch of small or minor stuff that turned on their taste buds, pillows, t-shirts, a bunch of my truck and car magazines, camera bag, a fishing rod, and ya, they like TP too. pooping and peeing has been no prob, Rumble picked it up right away and basically taught the other two, at least we dodged that bullet would'nt have it any other way... |
