Brake upgrade question

I have a 67 c10 that I'm in the process of converting to power steering and power disc brakes up front. I ordered the booster/master/prop valve from brothers and just got it yesterday. The old lines for the front arent the correct size or in the right spot, also not same size for caliper hose connection. I'm hoping someone can help me with info on parts needed...size of brake line used and fittings needed..thanks in advance

Re: Brake upgrade question

I think I managed to find everything I needed after driving to every part store in town. Does anyone know what I should use on the threads when installing everything? PTFE? threadlock?

I may be wrong but for brake lines don't use anything! The flare is what does the sealing and anything else may cause a problem. I'd wait for smarter folks than me to verify that first....

Correct. No need do add anything to assist in sealing threads on brake lines.

Re: Brake upgrade question

does your carb have a port for it? thats where i ran mine...

if not, your intake should have 3/8" port behind the carb. mine had a tee fitting there for the trans modulator line and the booster line.

Re: Brake upgrade question

However, I wouldn't run a brake booster and a vacuum modulator for the transmission off of the same line. The factory had them come from dedicated sources. The booster came from the rear of the carb and the modulator came from the fitting on the intake manifold.

You don't want the vacuum source for either one of those interupted by another source sharing the same line.

Thanks for the info! I happened to find some old pics from when I pulled it from the camaro and found the line off the carb that I had plugged..I think the last thing I need to figure out,is how to set the rod length from booster to pedal, do I just set it to where there is no slack before depressing the pedal?

Re: Brake upgrade question

Just make sure to run vacuum from below the throttle plate. That way you will have good vacuum at low throttle and idle for the brakes.

yup. with my new carb i ran the booster straight to carb, modulator line to the tee fitting and capped off the original booster fitting on the tee.

wasnt sure if the OP had a port on the carb for the booster

You should have 1/8" of free pedal so that you don't end up causing a bind. Do you have a manual for your truck? I used to have a link to post for people. One of our members was gracious enough to upload a lot of the manuals. You can search for it, and get the correct free pedal adjustment for the brakes. For 1970, it's on page 5-10.
