Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Made my weekly journey to the shop to see how she is doing. They have the initial blocking on the bed done and it back in it's second round of epoxy. They then began final panel fitment and blocking of the cab, doors and front clip. I should get the frame back next week when they pull her completely apart. I walked in yesterday afternoon to see 5 guys sanding at once....that was cool.

Nothing like having somebody else do the bodywork for you. It's like you see on TV, a group of guys sanding a car and getting it done in like a day, right????

Don't be a hater! LOL

It isn't happening that quick, but the pandemic sure is helping in getting the truck done since his shop has all but stopped work on insurance jobs. He has everyone getting paid through this and since they are now hourly they are jumping on my truck. Corona bad for most, but this is working out well for me.

No hate here, just jealousy!

I gotta say, the silver on the new trucks with black wheels looks really good. New trucks in silver or white look good with black wheels. Sometimes I miss my white 2014. I also just saw a dark sky metallic sierra and that was cool.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Ran out to the shop to check on the truck Friday. They have made a lot of progress on fit and body lines for the doors. Cab roof and back is all done. Bed will be getting final primer in the next day or so.

While I am waiting for the truck to return I decided to start cleaning up a few things for the under the dash re-install. I cleaned up the washer motor and all the ac vents that go under the dash. I ordered my new seat last week along with extra material so I can get the dash pad recovered and installed first.

Is there any reason I should wait to have the windshield installed after paint? The shop can have it done cheaper than I can, so I was thinking I would just have them install it prior to bringing it home.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Shes looking great. They are making some fine progress. I agree Silver will look great! You are correct there are a lot of different silvers.
I personally would have all the paint done before installing the front windshield.

Hey Dave! Yes, all painting would be done before the windshield went in. I just didn't know if there is a reason to wait after that.

I've decided on Triple Nickel for the color. Chrysler Hellcat color. I figured if the frame was Viper Red I had to stay in the Chrysler family

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Then I would certainly say yes have them install it after paint.
That will be an awesome color for your truck.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

It is always fun getting parts in the mail, but this was the biggest box yet. The quality of the seat is even better than I expected. Can't wait to get the truck home and set this in her.

Is that a Snowden??? That’s the exact and seat and color I am planning for my interior! Please let me know if it’s as comfortable as advertised. It’s going to look awesome with your colors.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Good gracious that's RED!

Is it leather or polyurethane? In answer to rowdy11's question, I sat in a display seat from Snowden at Lonestar Throwdown last year and I thought it was incredibly comfortable for a bench seat.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

It is a Snowden Seat. Two things when I got it out of the box. I was surprised how soft the material is. It feels like a real leather, but it is a synthetic. How comfortable it is! Holy cow it sits real nice. Of course we have only sat in it the garage floor and not in the truck.

I ordered 4 extra yards of material with it to have my dash, headliner, door panels, visors, etc. done here locally.

I'm excited about the red and silver. Hopefully, it comes together like I see it in my head.

Shannon I saw a couple references to your wheel size. They look great! Would you clarify the size for me? I'm contemplating a change so I'm taking notes...
Thanks

That is one awesome seat. That's going to look great in that truck. I never heard of Snowden seats before. I checked them out and they look great. Plus it looks like they make a drop-in set up for our trucks. I can't wait to see this in your truck. It's going to be sweeeeeet!

Thanks I thought they were but wasn't sure. That's the size I'm leaning towards but it seems like the tire selection is a little thin. I have 18 now just looking for a change
