Protecting door mount speakers from rain? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys, I just recently removed the 6x9 door speakers that were installed in my truck when I got it. I've been driving around without the speaker covers on and I noticed that when it rains, the water drips right where the speaker is!

I've heard about the boot things to put the speaker assembly in, but word is that they completely destroy bass response. I'm planning to add subs later but right now it's a last priority. Has anyone had experience with waterproofing that area or come up with nifty tips to help save my new speakers?

I had the same problem with rain going down the door and hitting the speakers, when you pay like a 100 on speakers you want them protected so I researched around and found that boom mat was the best deal. Its like a rubber foam type material that encases the whole backside. Its made to correct sloppy bass so they say but to me I like how it protected the speaker more than correcting sloppy bass. I tested them with them in and without and with them in to me with two speakers sounds like I have more than a 2 speaker system.

Yeah that seems like the best option. Did you run the speaker cord out the bottom or the side? Also how much were they. Thanks!

crutchfield sells foam enclosures made for specific speaker sizes. I'll try to find the link... haven't heard sound quality but here they are

I got them from amazon paid 13 including shipping and I ran the wire out the side.

My 6.5's sit inside where my vent hole in in the kick pannel. I build a fiberglass enclosure the speaker sits inside of and is water tight. I would do the same for door speakers.
