Spot Prime and Repaint or Full Monty?

I am done with all my metal work (cab corners, lower door patches, fender dings, and roof replacement) and I am ready to repaint. The original paint (other than repaired areas) is in pretty good shape, so I was thinking of spot priming the repaired areas with epoxy primer and going straight to base (skip 2K primer and sealer). Is that a bad idea? Not looking for show quality here. Just a nice daily driver look.

Thanks.

Well that would depend on the quality of the panels if several coats of Epoxy primer will give you enough build the sand it out But a high build will give you more room for sanding out imperfections

Re: Spot Prime and Repaint or Full Monty?

You will need some high build, Have you ever noticed when you spray epoxy on a panel with filler that you can see the filler still. Ever wonder why? No it isnt bad bodywork the primer soaks into the filler and cant the metal. The high build primer is really key in getting a good job just as much as the epoxy. Also the high build will make you a better bodyman you will be amazed after using it I have used HUNDREDS of gallons of it. You COULD spray paint over epoxy but you are really missing the boat by not spraying some high build. Good luck and happy sanding . Jim

What brand epoxy? Some build/sand better than others. You can get away with it but spraying a reduced coat of epoxy as a sealer is your best bet.
