K20 steel wheels

Do the Chevy 8-lug original steel wheels have any tell tell signs that they are Chevy ? Were they all 16x6.5 ?

I just located three and was told that they take both a ford hub cap &/or a Chevy hub cap

Re: K20 steel wheels

All the 8-lug wheels and hubcaps interchange. They were actually standardized back then. The original wheels on these trucks were 16" split rims or 16.5 one piece. The 16 x 6.5 are from later trucks. I run 16 x 7 Accurides, which are off of early-'90s Ford trucks

Re: K20 steel wheels

That's all trucks from 1/2t to medium duty. For 8-lug trucks with single wheels there were some options for even more obscure sizes than the two most common 16" split rims (6") and 16.5s (6.75"). The Ford Accurides look like the 16.5s. They are only 1/4" wider but are 16" for better tire availability. The 1/2" diameter difference is virtually undetectable. AND... they are the newest factory truck wheel you will find. GM and Chrysler moved away from hubcaps on their trucks long before Ford did

Paint on the K20 originally white. But some prefer other colors. My F@#d wheels were gray like Stockers.

Ford 16 x 7 wheels with 265/75/16 tires on the blue truck, and GM 16 x 6 1/2” wheels with 235/85/16 tires on the orange truck.

Re: K20 steel wheels

Does anyone make a 17" steel wheel for our trucks, 16.5 is too hard to find tires for in my area and they're expensive when I do find them andi can't run 16's due to the construction of them. I have summit rotors and wilwood dual piston calipers up front and the welds... rivets... however they're held together rub the calipers. I really want the stock look but the only place I found so far was Detroit steel wheel company and if I recall correctly it was going to cost somewhere in the $800-1,000+ range

Like you said Detroit Steel Wheels is the only place I could find that makes them.

You answered your own question. That's what happens when you go and start changing things. One thing leads to another, and mo' money mo' money.

Re: K20 steel wheels

My friend who bought my '72 K/20 Highlander had wheels custom built. They use GM truck 6 1/2" x 16" wheel centers with 17" x 9" rims. That wasn't cheap at all. Especially since it involved shipping his four wheels to CO from PA and them shipping them back

Re: K20 steel wheels

The prices for the Detroit steel convinced me. I'm just going to use the 16 inch wheels off the 81 donor truck instead of 18 inch wheels I was thinking of. Lol the truck had split rims on it when I bought it
