Re: White Lightning - 68 C10 Shortbed Stepside

I had this crazy idea that I could paint the truck silver. Yeah, that was a mistake. I just couldn't get the silver flakes to lay down with any consistency so I headed to the paint store to buy some gloss white! Turns out that every pro I talked to since has said silver is really, really hard to paint.

Re: White Lightning - 68 C10 Shortbed Stepside

I LOVE silver, but I haven't shot it enough to get it to lay down right either. I'm still tempted to try it in future anyway, but I'll likely regret it haha!

Nice LT hat btw,

Cab is painted. What a PIA to maneuver the spray gun in the cab.

I think there were 27 welds on each side of mine. They didn't want those things coming off, but they always rust underneath. How are you replacing them?

Re: White Lightning - 68 C10 Shortbed Stepside

I bought these angle strips from Brothers. I bolted down the bottom of the strips but I didn't bolt/weld them to the edge.

Finally rolled it out of the garage and got a good picture. Now I need to wet sand with 1200 and 2000 grit.

Re: White Lightning - 68 C10 Shortbed Stepside

I bought some 22" transport wheels. I had been looking for a set of these for a couple months but of course the only set I found reasonably priced were white so I have some painting to do. I just can't do white truck with white rims.

That's a pretty sweet looking truck. Is that flat white? Which paint did you use?

Thanks! Yes, they were flat white but had enough scratches that I would have had to paint them anyway. I used good old Rustoleum to paint them. I've used that on other wheels and it has held up great.

The wheels do look good. What did you use to paint the truck? Is the truck also flat white?

Thanks,
Nick
