This motor should be able to breath well. Will be nice to see you putting it together.

Thanks Larry. I did the math this morning and should be able to get it on the dyno for startup, break-in and tuning before the end of summer.

Hey fellas...

Build is moving glacially slow but moving. I just got the engine components back from the engine shop. They did a preliminary assembly for clearance checking and blueprinting and now I have it at home in pieces again for final fit and assembly. Hope to have it together and back at the shop on the dyno for break-in and tuning by late July/Early August.

I decided I am going with no limit rack and pinion steering but am trying to decide which way to go with my power steering pump (upgrading from stock). I also decided that when the front clip goes back on, the bed will soon be coming off for a shortbed conversion. I don't have much confidence the two piece driveshaft is going to last behind the new engine so I'm going to get a proper one (read $$$) built over here by the driveshaft shop. Going this route also means I'll only have to run my new exhaust and fuel system once so I've convinced myself it makes sense.

That's the good news. The bad news is this means the duration of the project will be stretched out again while I collect funds to get the bed chopped (doing it without the need for paint or bodywork so its not at all inexpensive) - I talked to efabman on here (he's local) and he indicated he can do it for me. I also visited Retro Designs here locally (they built Boosted Bela for SEMA) and Daniel is willing to do it as well. When I'm ready I'll see who has the better turnaround time and go from there- they both look like they'll do a fine job. I'll cut the frame myself at home, probably with the brothers template kit.

I'll post some engine pics tomorrow....

Thanks for waking the thread up.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"

Yup I hear all you are saying there....if you think you may want a shortbed you better do it now. I'm very seriously considering this step myself for all the same reasons. I also do not want to run fuel and exhaust twice needlessly, am scared of a two-piece DS, and certainly won't do the Shortbed conversion after body and paint is completed. The only thing holding me back is "the unknown". If I had a local buddy that would verbally guide me on how to chop the bed sides and weld them together I would have already done it.

Still in the same direction, mostly, but decided to jump in the HOV lane to get there a lot faster. I am pretty tired of spending all this money on a truck that I have to push out of the garage when I want it to move! I want to get it to what I can call done for a while and just get my truck and garage space back.

Thanks Ben. I checked your build thread not more than a week or two ago to see where you were at with your new build. No progress or just nothing to report?

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"

Picked up all the finished engine components from the engine shop last Friday (most of them anyway- still short a cam, my FAST intake and throttle body).

"High-performance engine, some assembly required."

Callies forged stroker crankshaft.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"

Set up to start assembly of the rotating assembly.

Crank installed with ARP studs.

Got the pistons and rods assembled this past week at work. These parts are all too pretty to be hidden where nobody can see them.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"

Yeah man that's what I'm talking about. Which rod bolts did you go with? What type of rings did you get? I'm surprised you are not going with long tubes

ARP rod bolts. Rings are from Mahle in the piston kit. The long tube headers from Doug Thorley are the smaller diameter and since I am pushing 6.7 of displacement I needed the bigger pipes. I wanted to make sure ground clearance wasn't going to be an issue either. Should work well.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"

I now have a fully assembled long-block. Might put the cam and a few more parts on tomorrow. Weather is supposed to break and we'll have less than 200% humidity and 90 degrees.
