You didn't mention a cam swap, so I assume it's stock. I would love to get 16 from mine when done on a light foot on flat ground. The 454 TBI with the NV4500 has gotten 14 all highway unloaded. 8-9 towing our 30' 8,000lb travel trailer. 10-11 avg unloaded everyday driving. I put a super mild cam in my LQ4. Plus I have 3.73 gears.

When I was registering my 3+3 dually I had to have it weighed on a certified scale. I was surprised it was only 5880 lbs. I figured 7000ish with the iron BBC. I am going to reweigh it after my LS turbo swap is all said and done.

Mine is the early for sure, but the outfit who performed the swap for the previous owner switched to the later model top plate with the bolt on shift tower. Which is good if I ever pull the trigger on a short throw shifter. The only one I have seen available for the GM version of the NV4500 is from Core....and that $300 pill is hard to swallow.

Check out my build thread, first build on a squarebody in almost 10 years and was a pain since I needed to run a stock LS ac compressor.

Re: Mongos 81 c30

Did a little pulling upgrade to the C30..I added a under bed winch..
It's a superwinch 9000 that I had taking up space on the shop floor,so I put it to good use
I used a 1/2" plate that bolts to the frame to mount the winch and fairlead to,
and it was just right for fairlead to sit behind the tag
So I cut out the tag plate, welded a hinge to it ,and used a couple of magnets to hold it closed
The controls plug for the winch was broke, so while searching for a new plug, I found that I could use a wireless remote for the winch..bought a cheap one off Ebay and wired it in..best winch upgrade ever..!!
I also went ahead and wired in a new plug for the remote..for those just in case moments..
Ran the power wires up the frame rails to the battery, where I added a disconnect switch so no power is at the winch until needed..
I recently put it to use when I loaded the IH travelall on the trailer..

Re: Mongos 81 c30

Thanks outlaw!!!...
I wanted to get this knocked outta the way before I pull the bed off next summer
Still gotta fix the cab where I got hit and run on..and the bed has to come off to fix the cab dent..
and the bedliner that's on the bed is turning loose..
So the bed will get sandblasted, epoxy, and painted while its off..no more DIY roll-on bedliner

Not bad at all!!

As much as I loved the 6.0/LS/turbo NV4500 setup in my C30....the Cummins mpg is insane.

Still haven't gotten used to the brick in the washing machine sound though. Lol

Re: Mongos 81 c30

Yeah was really thinking diesel swap way back then, but then I started pricing engines, changed my mind quick...
And as far as pulling the "IH brick", most of the time I had to look in the mirrors so I'd know it was still back there, even when I went thru the cyclotyphoonado in Arkansas, the crosswinds had little effect..
But it did not like pulling Vail pass on i70...about 35mph is all I could get at those elevations going up some of those hills

The air gets pretty thin up there, you either need A LOT of cubic inches or some forced atmosphere!

Re: Mongos 81 c30

I decided to replace my 40+yr old shocks.. been awhile since I've bought shocks, WOW, they sure have got pricey.. went with bilstein 4600, the old orig shocks I pulled off had no rebound left
No time to drive it yet to see if it makes a difference, the rubber bushing in the old ones was deteriorated and I noticed I was having front wheel bounce issues..
I also noticed some nice flat spot cupping on the fronts, so I may have to get them trued up..

Re: Mongos 81 c30

all i can say is WOW ,what a difference the new shocks made..
i took the truck for a 40mph drive across the hay field..very very smooth..
before your head would hit the cab roof doing about 15mph
