Did I get the wrong axle seal?
The new seal is the one with red. Its what the parts store says is needed for my truck. Its a 12 bolt non posi. It looks like that silver ring thats still in the hub just needs to come out and the new seal will fit but I just want to make sure so that I don't ruin something.

No, that's the bearing outer race. That needs to be pushed in further and then the seal will fit into the axle bore.

Huh... never seen an outer axle bearing like that in a truck 12 bolt. There is no "race" that I've ever seen. The bearing and "race" is a single caged unit.

That looks like an axle-saver bearing. It is located outboard a little to run in a fresh location on the axle. You may need a different seal than the stock replacement.

Yeah it is, I found another locally and so far no more leak.

Looks to me like the seal should have come with that repair bearing as a unit.... I guess you would have to get a seal that will fit inside that bearing race.

If this is the case, it may be installed backwards... And yes most have a built-in seal.

Lets see the box it came in for a part number (bearing AND seal), then we can help you perfectly.

I already finished the job. Instead of trying to locate a seal that would fit into that axle saver bearing I Just bought a whole new axle saver bearing.

I assume it installed exactly the same way? Because of the step in the housing I wouldn't think it could go in the other way.
