Most popular engine for our trucks and why?

I been working on fine tuning my 406 and starting thinking who has what motor and why did you choose it for your truck? I chose the 406 because i wanted raw torque and power. What about you guys? Don't forget to vote.

Re: Most popular engine for our trucks and why?

i have a 406sbc for my 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd with 3 on the tree and 4.10 third member swap. my dad bought the engine 15 years ago for his 84 burb and it doesn't have many miles on it since it was rebuilt just prior to his getting it. right now i have a 307 in my truck......boring....

i don't find a 350 very exciting. i love stroker motors and being different and so i'd rather have a 305 or a 307 with a 400 crank than a straight 350. that would be a very efficient setup but i already have my bad boy motor. it has the cross drilling in the head and block. i may put an RV grind full roller valvetrain in it before i pop it in.

exhaust will be the stock ram horns with hopefully a magnaflow x pipe stainless dual setup from lmc. top end will be an edelbrock performer intake with a q-jet on top and i have an early 70's chevy dual snorkel air cleaner bottom with the top off my dad's 84 burb air cleaner so i can get lots of air and filter it through a 14x5" filter. it is soo backyard hot rod engineering AND factory looking that it is just plain sick!

Mine has the 327 it came with, always like the 327, holds up good and good power. That and only showing 89XXX on the clock, guess I'll keep it awhile!

350 crate motor. most of the trucks that I buy have later year 350s in them as replacement motors.

Re: Most popular engine for our trucks and why?

I only voted once for "other" because all 3 trucks fit into that category.

71 C20 longbed fleetside 305 (installed by previous owner from 76 Elcamino)

69 C10 longbed stepside 250 (original motor)

68 C10 shortbed fleetside 496 (in the panning stages right now)

I went with a small block 400 then built it to a 406 beyond happy with it plenty of power and torque.

Re: Most popular engine for our trucks and why?

It seems a lot of people like the 350, but since I have always been different I don't have one.

The 350 is a great engine and is less expensive to work on than the two engines I have.

My '67 swb stepper has a I-6 and my '71 lwb stepper has a 454.

They both have the granny 4 speed. I like to drive the '67 most of the time, but every once in a while I am in the mood for raw power. That is when I drive the '71.

My son and I put the '67 together a couple of summers ago.

I voted 5.3 because that's the route I'm thinking of going. They are affordable & its newer tech.

I'm running a 350. Love them. There are parts every where for em. Relatively cheap to work on.

350, my 2wd blazer had one in it when i bought it. If it didn't i think i would have got a 350 crate as they are pretty cheap for the power you get and could get later if you want

Re: Most popular engine for our trucks and why?

Mine came with a 350, which I had rebuilt. It serves the purpose, but part of me has always wished I had opened the wallet a bit more and gone with a 383 stroker.
