Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

I've been searching and scavenging all the affordable bed side tool box parts I can muster up. My first truck, a 1969 Chevy Longhorn, had a bed side tool box. Unfortunately, I didn't save that part when I parted that truck out. When I built my 72 I wanted to add one but couldn't find a decent one at the time. Now I have a few in various states. I'm working on having enough pieces to make 2 complete bed side tool boxes. Anyone have any they wanna let go?

One of these tool boxes is locked and has something heavy in it. I'm guessing it is a jack. I need to get it to Leon to have him un lock it and make me some keys.

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

Nice stash brewing there. Looks like you’ve got a couple decent doors, that’s the hardest part it seems. Don’t drill the lock what ever you do! Took me a couple years to get another one for my K20 after I drilled it out. The doors you’ve got look really decent. I bought the whole tool box bed from a guy on here 5-6 years ago. Got really lucky and the door is perfect not a single spec of rust. I’ve got an outer opening cut stashed away to repair the little bit of rust in the bottom of mine below the door. Parts are out there, you’ll find them eventually.

Any 73-76 tool boxes in your stash with this piece that covers the lock from the inside on them?

Don't worry, I won't drill them. I'll see if Leon can work his magic on them. I need to find the spare lock stuff I bought from Atog on here now that I think of it. Yeah, I have 2 really decent doors. I had to pay up for those though. I plan to use a rocker panel and trim it down to repair the center of the openings. The guy in Utah isn't offering the repair panel at the moment.

Sorry, no I do not. I have only stumbled onto one of those in my parts and the guy wanted way too much for the truck. That was the only way to get the box and tool box.

I bet those doors were pricey. I had a guy at a gas station offer me $500 for the door on my truck. It stays locked needless to say. Well that makes two of us that have recently inquired it sounds like. I emailed them about it a couple months ago. Take pictures of the repair if you can, I’d be interested to see how it comes out. The opening patch panel I have isn’t perfect by any means just better than mine. I’ve thought about taking the rocker panel route a few times.

I have a fiberglass tub laying in the back of the Green '67, and a couple of lock pieces. I think it is the lock bolt and the cover that goes over it and screws to the inside of the door..

Its crazy places are out of stock on rocker panels currently. I was going to order some to start repairing an opening and noticed these shortages. Weird.

Here are some other pieces I recently got from some fellow board members.

Nice! Those are all really hard parts to find, luckily the trim on my bed is good. I haven’t seen much of the OE tool box related trim pieces come up on here. Lock parts in any capacity are a huge score.

I had no idea that rockers were hard to get right now. I’m sure it’s because of the Kungflu.

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

So, I am currently restoring (well, mostly fixing rust) on my bedside toolbox (1971). The original lock is gone, replaced by PO with a door lock. So, I made it work, but when in unlocked position, you cannot remove the key. The door rust repair took me weeks (mostly just work weekends). Now I am fixing the opening in the bedside. Luckily, the box is in good shape.

But, my tool box is painted white. Were they natural (blackish) fiberglass when delivered new? Where are the cut/tape lines (i.e. back of door, through box) on two tone trucks

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

Best I know, this is the original finish. My bed is original paint but solid dark olive poly so I don’t know where the exact tape lines would be on a two tone. I would guess anywhere covered by the trim like the normal beds.

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

Let me see if I can dig out one of my 2 tone doors and get a pic or you. The tool box inserts are just natural black fiberglass on all the ones I've had/seen.

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

I guess my question is the door solid color on the back or does two tone wrap the door (front and back). I know where the line is on the front. My thought is that is similar to the main doors in that the white (minor color) just wraps around as far as the door skin wraps around and then stops. So the back of the door would be body color (not white). Then, what about the recess that the box mounts to? Does the white color line pass through the recess or stop somewhere?

I know a lot of questions...definitely not right on my truck.

Hope this is not hijacking the thread...good stash that I wish I had

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

Every 2 tone one I've seen the white is split in the opening but the back of the door is the bottom color like a cab door.

Re: Bed side tool box parts (Hoard)

Here is a picture of an opening to sort of show the paint split.

Has anyone found anymore or wanting to sell theirs?

Member, Uncle, in Georgia has a Longhorn bed with a tool box I'd love to have but he's pretty far from me.

Has anyone ever heard you couldn't get a tool box on a factory K truck? I've had a couple of members tell me this but I had 2 K20s that had them so now I am curious if they were original or bed swapped.
