Hey man, I know others have mentioned finding a different swb that you can work on while you continue searching for your grandpas. Here's one I found on CL and it mentions guns as partial trades, maybe you could work something out with the guy.

Looks like a good start, start trading. Who knows maybe he might want your VW for a driver, never hurts to ask

Well IMO if you want a 67-72 bad enough then you could learn how to drive a stick. Or put a th350 and a new steering column in it and put a patch in the floor. Chances are you're gonna have to work for it a little. I think trading would be your best option if you can convince your parents to let you trade the VW

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Friend of mine, had a 66 Chevy panel truck in his barn for years he never registered it. I was going to buy it make a work truck with it but couldn't get the cash. long story short. previous owner son contacted my friend, he was looking for it, his dad had passed away. he had memories with the ole truck. My friend sold it back to him. I think he even sold back for what he paid. The son is now restoring the truck. So there is a chance you'll find it. Somebody may have it parked in barn somewhere.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Ask for some overtime at your job? Or work a second job with the earnings going straight to the truck fund. Maybe sell a bunch of stuff on eBay. You sound like a young guy, so I'm sure you've got something of value. (electronics, etc) In my experience, if I want something, I make it happen.

Go for your goal, don't waste time arguing with folks on here. You've got the best online forum for Chevy/GMC trucks at your disposal, but you are arguing with some of the most respected guys on the forum. Ive never met 5150 personally, but ive dealt with him on here, and he is one hell of a builder. And you could learn a lot from his skills. He just sold a SEMA show quality Blazer that he built and he is now tackling a SWEET Suburban.

I admit, this is a tough crowd, but the reason some guys on here are ribbing you is because you have a goal, but you don't have a plan.

Last year, I had to sell a whole pile of stuff to buy my Blazer (parts, tools, etc...) And I bought my Suburban in 2009 (unfinished) the month after I got layed off from a very good paying job. In fact, I was on unemployment. But I HAD to have it. My wife still brings up the story ...I sold my Jeep Commander to get rid of the payment and my wife and I decided I needed something that would "fit the family" but was good on gas. So, when I rolled in with an unfinished 40 year old gas suckin' Suburban (on Valentines Day-nonetheless), I was definitely in the doghouse. I didn't get any love on that Valentines Day

So, my only advice...(if you want it) find a cheap truck in your budget. Like this one around Charlotte for $850 -this is a steal... http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3524449191.html. Then, as you work on it, keep searching for your Grandpas truck, maybe you'll find it one day! But at least you'll have something to occupy you time and hone your skills in the meantime.

Just watch how much arguing is taking place on here, the admins won't put up with it. They'll just lock the thread and your story won't get told.

But, either way... I still hope you find that truck.

You are one nice guy to give him that advice. There's something about the OP's way that gets under my skin. I eventually added him to my ignore list. Then, after multiple comments by him on threads I had started, I made the mistake of unblocking him lol and regretted it when I read his response. It's itching at me to really tell him what I think, and why I feel he gets the responses he gets from others, but I'm just going to leave it at that, and hope he either gets a truck and contributes something of interest, or he beats it.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

I really do not feel like rereading all of this. I have had two days of reports on folks in this thread. It is taking away from fixing the forum issues, and adding the areas members have requested. SO without going back through the he said she said, I will say

1. please review the site rules... if you do not like someone, or what they have to say, report the post. Talking junk about someone simply creates more issues.
2. If you are posting on a message board, expect others opinions in reply. They may or may not agree with you.. its life, if we all agreed it would be quite boring.
3. please review the site rules....
4. If you have been around a while, take the time to teach the new folks and not run them off
5. review the site rules
6. If you are new, and have issues with several people, perhaps it is time to step back, reread what has transpired and learn from it. If there is a common cause in all the discontent, maybe posting styles need to be self evaluated.
7. be nice, play nice and post nice.. Im really swamped with stuff and don't care to spend another night till 2am with the same problems from the same folks. If that does happen, it likely won't end well for a few.

Thanks and happy discussions to all.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Thank you Liz,I am going to read the Rules..Many people on here take me as a Kid who doesnt take things serious.I am a very serious person. As some think I am a punk..I am simply new to this site, still learning and am very determined to get my own truck and upload a Build Thread eventually..As to that, To everyone I apologize for coming off as a immature Teen..I am very mature when I want to be..So with that said I will learn and move on with my Life and take opinions more serious and grow into the community

Welcome. We look forward to your upcoming build thread. And hopefully a reunion with your granddads old truck.

This is the best forum on the internet. You can learn a lot from us dummies.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

First let me make it clear that in no way do i mean this as any sort of personal attack take it for what its worth (keep in mind I'm not all that old a guy myself)
Go to school get an education do something with yourself/life your grandfather would be proud of!
Then when its not a struggle to scrape up 2k then worry about the truck.
Then either way find the truck or not you will have done something your granddad would be proud of.

Just my .02
