Exclamation CALLING ALL 250 OWNERS! What mufflers do you use?

The question is simple: what mufflers do you prefer on your 250? For everyone running duals, did you use an X or H-pipe? And what size of pipe did you go with? 2.25"?

Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure I have a stock exhaust all the way. I think it's all 2" pipe. Just so happens that I used a 1971 250ci to replace my 230ci in my 1965 C10. Here are pics. Everything bolted up to the factory locations. The muffler shop guy had a book that told him where to make all the bends and he didn't even have the truck there in the shop. I installed it myself.

292 will sound the same. Here's what mine sounded like with dual exhaust. Flowmaster 40 series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw_9eGLhhzk

On a stock 292 with a 4 barrel carb and intake, headers, I went with 2.25 straight duals.
On a hopped up 292 I would go with 2.5 and maybe an x-pipe....never got the reason for it. lol

I am running Langston headers into a single Cherry Bomb. Not the sound I would prefer but living with it.

Re: CALLING ALL 250 OWNERS! What mufflers do you use?

I'm running a stock manifold with single stock exhaust pipe size through a stock style round muffler. It was the longest, largest muffler the shop had. I asked for the quietest muffler they could put on it.

Sounds pretty close to factory original sound.

Dang, I was hoping for some miracle muffler that would actually make a six sound good. I have been looking for 30 years. Four cylinders can sound awesome but a six absolutely can not. Might as well go as quiet as possible.

That was my thinking also. 6's have a unique sound that can sound awesome with split manifolds and true duels. It costs money to get them to sound good, cam and everything otherwise.

Tom Langdon can tell you what is needed to get a cool sound. Different is good sometimes. Here's Tom Langdon's website. I like mine quiet. It draws admiration from people who appreciate a nicely tuned engine. I'll probably never invest a lot of money in my 250ci to gain performance because the money would be better spent elsewhere. Having just said that, I might run into someone who has an awesome sounding L6 and change my mind.

On my 230 I'm running straight 2 inch pipe (no muffler) back to the bumper and it sounds awesome especially when I down shift and she starts talking. I will be running the headers (duals) from Clifford's with no mufflers as well and see how she sounds. I can always install cherry bombs or something like that if I don't like the sound.

250 with towing cam. Hedman split header. 2.5" collector to 2.25" pipes. Dynomax turbo mufflers. Tailpipes behind wheels. Very happy with the sound. Nearly silent at idle. Some rumble on acceleration. three pulses per pipe gives different sound than v-8.

That's Tom lowes car. He is the owner of 12bokt.com. He specializes in 6 cylinders. I'm sure he can offer some onsite into what is installed. I have talked to him several times about issues and other performance stuff. Great guy with a lot of knowledge to share.
