Steering Column Rebuild - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

How hard and how expensive is it to rebuilt a steering column? Mine has some issues where when the truck is cold I have a really hard time getting the truck to shift from neutral back to reverse and park. Also I have a bit of play in the automatic shifter and want to get that fixed. Buying a new steering column is just out of my budget as I don't have $300-400 to just drop on a new one. Any advice, help, suggestions, or lessons learned would be very helpful. Thanks.

Check out this link. The columns in our trucks are similar to the ones found in 67-68 cars (ignition in dash) so scroll down to the appropriate section.

I rebuilt my not tilt unit and wasn't hard. I was able to get all the parts from Wes @ Classic Hartbeat.

Sweet...it doesn't look too hard from what I am seeing. How many parts did you have to get and how expensive overall was it?
