We're picking up a 68 c10 this week, I'm already making plans for a short bed conversion... Its not the exact truck I really want but the 68 hood and grill is growing on me and for the price we can't let it get away. My question is can I add the upper molding like the 70-72s? I'm not worried about keeping things original but does anyone do the to tone with white middle and cab and a 68 front clip? I'm not opposed to doing a clip swap in the future just trying to plan it in steps so I don't change my mind and have to start completely over.... Thanks !

If you are talking 68 Chevy but you like the 71-72 style Chevy nose better my guess is you will have zero problems trading your 68 nose for a 71-72 nose. If that's the way you would really like to go might as well get it done while the truck is apart for the bed and frame shortening.

I'm new to the 68-72 trucks but when I first started getting the fever I thought I liked the 71-72s best, but as I said the more I see them all I'm starting to come around to all of them... I assumed the 71-72 nose was more desirable, is it not?

71-72 has always been my favorite but I’m certainly in the minority. 67-8 seems to be popular today.

There does seem to be a general favoring of the 67/68 nose, but I think the options available for the 69-72 trucks are starting to level the playing field.

As to your question, of course you can put the upper molding on you truck but you'll have to place it correctly and drill all the mounting holes. This isn't done very often, but you occasionally find an example or two. In fact, GM also proposed this setup for '68 but ended up not using it. Here's a promo photo of one:
