Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I'd buy a new truck and pitch the camper shell off the current truck and use it for a real truck. I'd have the new truck with all the new sh...tuff which would be good for mileage even when towing. Hey, who am I kidding! I'd be floating in money. What would I care about mileage?

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

If I had the money, I'd buy or build a proper garage, outfit it for vehicle restoration----all the tools, paint booth, etc. and I'd hire a real pro, someone with a good personality that I could work with. This guy would show me how to properly do a frame-off restoration on my truck, with welding repairs, etc. I'd pay him to come every day and we'd work on this till done.

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I would return it to pure, bone, NOS stock, as brand new as it could be made with NOS GM parts. What would not be NOS would be original but lovingly restored to as near factory condition as humanly possible. it was a perfect truck for me brand new, and I know of no way to improve upon it.

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I can safely say I'm deep into mine. That or it's deep in me.....keep it clean. What was originally a ("will only cost me 18K") will be more like 36K.

That's with me doing most of the work less body/paint/powder coat. And the truck is in great shape to begin with. Everything will be new or refreshed down to 99.9% of the original hardware. Only shortcut is I won't rebuild the engine. 40K on the rebuild, runs like a top and the oil always crystal clear. Same with the antifreeze.

Like the guys above me, factory is the goal. There's some limitations for sure. Good luck finding NOS brakes, exhaust, shocks etc., pretty much most of the under-carriage. Putting a 2.5/4 drop on it too, so different leaf springs and spindles.

Basically:
  • Factory interior. The vinyl is in excellent shape, less the seat. I'm iffy on an original look bench cover versus something with a different touch. I may carpet the floor. It had a rubber mat.
  • Factory engine compartment. Exceptions being R34 A/C, GM HEI distributor, OER radiator. I'll lose the voltage regulator and TCS business. I'm leaning toward an electric choke kit on the Rochester, so the stove pipe will be for "pretty". I MAY pull the battery box off my other truck, or just use the replacement I picked up from Manes. I'm reinstalling the EEC vapor canister system.
  • Factory exterior. NOS and not exactly cheap. Only thing I'm changing is the antenna. High crown and fat ball fixed mast. Basically a mix of original truck parts less the fat ball. The set-up was factory on a 67-68 Corvette, and may pull-off nicely with the deluxe paint scheme.......................73 truck rallys, with an option for the stainless version cap on the original wheels. Nice to have choices.
  • Under carriage will be original-esque.

Money pit. More time than money first time out. will control your life..........

Get all the rust removed and have a high quality repaint job to match the SPID.

A pair or Warp 9 or 11 electric motors, a whole lot of batteries, and some wicked controllers. If some one wants to donate parts, I'm totally in. Instant crazy power!

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I probably typed what'd I'd do to my truck on here already but the "new garage" idea is a good one!

I'd build a new garage too but I'd have to move first (fine with me). Garage would be a ferro-concrete job (dome shaped) and part of my new dome-house mansion. I want at least 3 bays but large enough to house a lift and deep enough to handle car storage and that for around 10 cars/trucks.

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I would have a very reputable shop restore my 68 to 100% factory original. Maybe someday like 30 years from now when I retire (assuming we are still allowed to drive vehicles that burn fossil fuels).

Re: If you had the money what would you do to your truck?

I already sold my truck, but I would buy a 69 to 72 Blazer, swap a 68 front clip on it, slam it with a turbo LS and a T56. All the Creature Comforts, AC, he, heated and cooled seats.
