67 and 68 grill and hood differences?

So are the CHEVROLET hood letters the same on both models? And it seems like Ive seen there is something different about the grill, just don't remember what it is.

I'm cleaning out/up my parts and just trying to figure out what's what. Stay tuned for a barrage of questions =)

Re: 67 and 68 grill and hood differences?

I'm thinking the grilles were body color on 67s and white on 68s but not positive of that

Re: 67 and 68 grill and hood differences?

I think the hoods and letters are the same with the original letters ----not aftermarket-- having a pebble texture instead of flat surface chrome. I have the originals and they do differ from aftermarket.

The 68 has the body moulding around the grill on the fenders and the hood. So the 68 stock hood must have moulding mounting holes on the lip.

I too think the 67 grills are body color with the seperation moulding on the 68 giving a frame for a white grill.

Re: 67 and 68 grill and hood differences?

One of the hoods I have has the letters, the other just has the holes. I was thinking they would be the same. They aren't here at the house so I cant put a set of my extra letters in to check. Just keeping notes on what I can remember I have for now. As far as the trim, did the 68's all come with the hood trim and fender molding, or was that an upgrade?

And so far the grills sound like they are the same except for the way they were painted.

Re: 67 and 68 grill and hood differences?

68 hoods have a 90 degree flange all the way across at the rear most edge where it meets the cowl.

67's only have a short flange at the back only on the curved sides.
Across the flat of the hood they have no flange.

I have no idea how this plays with early 68's or late 67's.

I would assume this little flange would make the 68 hood slightly stronger at the rear.

I'm also guessing gmc hoods wouldn't have the letter holes.

Sorry the 67 hood being black it's hard too see.

It's amazing all the small differences on 67's .
Every year of these trucks all have their own small differences but I think 67 being the first year model run takes the cake, with the 72's coming in 2nd.

Here is a better pick of a no flange hood.
This one is for my 67 stepper that I have yet too do anything with yet. boo!

And I just looked over the two grills I have and didn't notice any differences but I also have no idea if they are both the same years or not as one is blasted and primed and the other is still oe silver also they both look identical too my oe 67 grill.
