How many of you removed the charcoal evap canister? I’m wondering what effects this may have.

If you remove it, the vapors from the tank will be vented into the engine compartment...that might not be a good thing. Why do you want to remove it?

charcoal is inside the cansiter and they over time loose there ability to store vapors, by removing the canister would only allow vapors to be emmitted to atmospher via the hose that hooked to canister , you will have no ill affect of any kind by removing this can, if you have smog / emssion laws (which I doubt you do) than you will run into issues there, If the can has good charcoal and has the ability to absorb vapors, leave it on, its not hurting a thing, it actual will benefit you a little, the vapors that are stored , will than be pulled into engine to burn, this to me is fuel efficient. so its your choice.

they usually get pluged up after years so i remove mine completely

Can I get one at any major auto parts store?
Can someone show how it should be hooked up? I’m not sure if mine is correct, the hose that goes to the carb. ties into the hose from the valve cover to the large fitting on the front of the carb.

Is this the only vent for the fuel tank? I'm wondering if it's possible to plug the line that goes to the cannister when removing the cannister instead of just leaving it open.

I took my charcoal canister off and plugged the line. Just be sure that you have a vent gas cap to prevent vapor lock. Its no different that the pre-canister trucks.

I bought what I was told was a vented cap and plugged the line. I ran the truck for 15 minutes last night without problems, but today it wouldn't start (usually fires right up cold) until I pulled the gas cap off. It seems the fuel sucked back into the tank.

What year did they start with the sealed cap? Seems I need a gas cap for an earlier truck.

i took mine off and just cut it at the steel line. No problems yet after five years.

Not to hijack this thread, but I've been wondering where the canister should be. I don't see it in the engine compartment, although the PO could've removed it. Is it behind the seat?

It should be mounted on the passenger side in the top corner of the core support/fender connection (two bolt holes side by side going from the core support to the fender).

Between the battery tray and the fender where the core support bolts to the fender (upper two side-by-side bolts).

it's on 71/72 only, so if you have a 70 or older, you'll never find it.
I see no reason to remove it personally. It stores and sucks the vapors from the fuel, and then burns it. It's kinda like a PCV, no drawbacks at all.
