Spring hanger/shackle pins

1965 K10 Suburban with leaf springs front and rear. Replacing the hanger/shackle pins and bushings. Working on the rear. Got the front hanger pins out by hammering out from the inside (slide hammer did not work). I can't get at the lower rear shackle pins to hammer out from the inside without dropping the gas tank first. Before I start beating on them from the outside in wanted to get some feedback from the forum. Can the pins be removed from the outside in or will they get tighter with each blow?

Re: Spring hanger/shackle pins

ive heated up the bolt heads & use a big impact wrench & try to unscrew them ?? if your bushings get screwed up -go to a spring shop & replace bushing & new grd 8 bolts -should be available at local hardware -i use a good grade_ self locking -flange nut

Re: Spring hanger/shackle pins

I drilled out the grease fitting and tapped to fit a 3/8 grade 8 bolt connected to a slide hammer. still no go. Dropped the tank and came at them from the inside with a large punch. They cooperated. Job done now.
