Need help finding a green solid color code
Ive been looking to choose a color that I can paint myself onto a 66 that I am restoring. Ive seen pics of this green metallic but Ill need to find a solid equivalent since I am painting this myself and have to paint panel for panel vs all at once.
I took these pics into the PPG store and they gave me 2 colors to try but not the right color though. The colors they gave me were the 503 light green and a sea moss color which have more blue that yellow in them. So Im about to go back and see if they can help match it better. Any help is appreciated. These pics are what Im after, only in a solid since Im painting panel for panel and cant handle the metallic paint as well. |

Re: Need help finding a green solid color code
I like that color....it really fits that body style well.....
but I've seen panel by panel paint jobs turn out with multiple shades of the same color from the same can of paint.....it really stands out on some colors and especially where a panel ends and the next begins....something to consider...

Re: Need help finding a green solid color code
Panel painting can be done with solids or metallics. Many vehicles are painted this way so you will need to study up on that. Suffice to say, it can be done.
As far as matching a picture of a color to an actual color is near impossible. If it were only that easy... Pick your favorite color from the PPG color library that the store has. Get them to spray some out on spray out cards and take them home to see in different light conditions. Once you have it down to one or two colors, buy a half pint and spray them on a crash panel (test panel) like a fender or door from your local body shop. Prime them but don't waste your time or money doing body work on them. The point here is to see how the colors play on the shapes and undulations that they have which will give you a true and real experience of your final choice.

Re: Need help finding a green solid color code
From my earlier trials of spraying metallic paint on a test panel and then taping over half of the panel and respraying I ended up with a variance...so if I understand right trying to paint solids will better my chances of getting the colors to match. Heres a test I did.
Well today was a rodeo, went to PPG and showed the pics and the more we talked about trying to get a solid color match it seemed to me that the best thing to do was go to house paint stores that have boat loads of solid color swatches and hopefully find what looks like a winner. That way they could scan it and match it from a solid non-metallic paint chip. So I did and still had trouble getting what looked to be a decent match. I have though found a few colors online that might be close. One is April Green from 1959 Ford, and 1954 Ford Sea Haze green . Ill keep looking and see what I can find. |
