Re: New member with barn find

I bought a repop at Carlisle. I used a brillo pad on my original one and it came out pretty nice. Hopefully I'll be done by spring but it's hard working in the cold, the garage has heat but I have to go outside to paint, weld or grind.

Re: New member with barn find

I've been working on the dash and everything behind it, so far so good, I even got the light, wipers and blower fan working. Now I can start on the fuel tank and lines but I still have to order brake lines.

Re: New member with barn find

With all the snow we are getting here I'm getting a lot done. I was able to get the windshield installed. What a fun job that was, I used two suction cups from Harbor frieght and some rope. The first two atempts I used the glass wheatherstrip from LMC but the chrome trim kept falling out, I couldn't keep it locked in. when that happens you have to start over. I ordered the weatherstrip from http://precisionrestorationparts.com/ and I had it installed in an hour, there weatherstrip would hold the trim in place while you work the seal over the body lip.
Also got the dash 99% done just need a new turn signal cam, I found out the one I have was cracked.

Re: New member with barn find

Strong work - looks great!!! Very nice attention to detail. Just a thought - consider adding a stainless cowl screen (from LMC) to keep out the leaves and other debris. I added one (painted black) to each of my trucks as I plan to drive some forested country roads when the snow melts.

Re: New member with barn find

I'm happy, I got the engine back today, I had them bump it up to about 315 hp. I have to flip the drivers side valve covers for the oil tupe and move the crossmember forward because of the 700r4 that I installed last week. I also got all the brake lines, fuel lines and the gas tank complete. I just got done making plates for the underside of the roll bar so I can bolt it down, I'll have to fish the front inner plate through the rocker box and pull it through the floor, I welded the bolts to the plate, It should be fun. Oh and the glove box door clears the roll bar about a 1/2" or so. I hope to have it on the road by late spring or early summer. Here's some pics.

Re: New member with barn find

Nice attention to detail, well done John. If you are going to use the oem spark plug wire looms, wait till you try to mount up the rear ones by the distri., youll hang by your knees from the ceiling to reach the bolts. I used studs to make it a little more manageable

Re: New member with barn find

Thanks Jim, That's a good idea. I have a set of headers so I'll guess I'll have to use some aftermarket ones.

WOW! Haven't checked in for a while. Your project progressed fast and came out awesome! Love the color and great job on all the little details. Looking forward to seeing it done. Will it still fit in the garage with 35s though? That would stink. Is it going to be done for the summer? Good luck!

LOL, I try to keep it clean for the chevelle but it still gets dust up under the cover and all over the engine.

It will fit with 35's but I think I'm going with 33's, I only have a 2 1/2" lift and with the weight of a winch up front and a 33 on the rack outback should bring it down some. I would like to be driving it down to my sister house in OC NJ early summer, I'll give you a shout when I do and swing by your place.

I had the day off today and could'nt wait to drop the engine in. The poly engine and trans mounts are a PITA to line up, I'll try fighting with them over the weekend. But for now it's in.
