It would be 14 spline not 10. No T5 has a 10 spline shaft. That's why you need the clutch kit for an Astrovan. It is a 11 inch clutch with 14 spline. Much better than the 9 1/8 inch disc in the S10

What about a Ranger overdrive unit? About 1500 bucks. Shorted drive shaft, install bucket seats and boom.

Well a hat...u got a possible swap n the truck version of the t5. Ive had 1 n an s10. I had the 4 banger under the hood but the tranny did fine. Looking back at the fact u want to stay on a budget, this one fits the bill. U also said u didn’t tow much of anything so with this tranny that’s a plus. I say that because I’ve only seen the trannys towing small single axle trailers and the like. They are a light duty but again, u are not towing so u should b fine. I’ve seen these for sale and they were not expensive. The rebuild parts are there if u ever need them. The big thing u need to know is what is your first gear n the 1 u have now vs this s10 version. That will come n 2 play at the stop light. It will extend the life of that 292 and if they held up to the v6 motors n the s10, I can’t c why it wouldn’t hold up 4 u. Big difference overall is the weight difference of the 2 trucks.

I got this from a seller on ebay...
The one with 1352 216 tag number is a 1993 and up. All Camaro and S-10 T-5's 1993 up use a Ford bolt pattern. People use that model because it is a World Class type, which is a bit stronger than the regular T-5. You will do fine with a regular T-5 if you run 20 or 30 Weight synthetic fluid. You have to make a choice between electronic speedometer-395.00-shifter is 50.00, or mechanical speedometer-795.00-this comes with shifter and yoke. The mechanical is pricey because they are very scarce. By the same token, they are a good investment, because T-5 transmissions get more valuable every year. All are guaranteed fully. One more item, if your 292 bell housing is back in the 1980's then T-5 fits perfectly. If the later, more common bell housing, then the center hole is about a quarter inch bigger, and you need an adapter ring from Novak for 31.00. And the T-5 input shaft will be about 1/4" inch too long, and a hacksaw and 5 minutes solves that. This is IMPORTANT to know because I have seen people bolt up their S-10 T-5 and tighten the bolts and POP broke the mounting ears. What do you guys think? He has two transmissions listed that are $395 and $495; then one also for $795 (which is out of my price range). 1. $395 for a trans without a shifter and yoke VS 2. $495 for a trans with shifter and yoke. Just trying to get a perspective here. Also, is the electronic speedo version ok to use with these trucks? There is an adapter, right?

What bill said $495. The yoke new is roughly $135. Don’t forget the cost of the clutch kit u will need. Also, didn’t c the length of warranty. But rebuilt from rock auto they run around $1300. Good luck a hat. Take some pics and let people know how it all turned out with your opinion on this swap 4 others.

Clutch... if the clutch u have has the same spline count and size then no. What u have will work. So...u need to know the size and spline count of what u have to make sure. Example....Muncie has 1.125 size spline shaft with 26 splines. Tko...has the same 26 x1.125 shaft so.. Muncie style clutch( which isn’t ultra expensive) works for the both. U can ask the seller what he has to make sure it fits your setup. But.. know what u have before u ask what he has.
Drive shaft...measure your tranny from where it bolts n 2 bell to the back of the tranny. Now ask seller how long his is. Remember...if yours is longer then the drive shaft will have 2 change before u can use his. From the post by guys that have done this, things seem to b the same. That’s a good thing but knowing what u have before u start is a great thing as well. Budget n for a new clutch and or drive shaft. Having the money even if u don’t need it is a big plus. Your warranty is up at some point and that point shouldn’t come from u waiting to have all the funds for that “what now moment” Speedo... u will need some kind of converter box to get it to work. My suggestion is to look thru some threads and find out how this is gonna work before u buy tranny.if the converter box is more than $300 I would get the $795 from him instead. Rock auto... I looked 1 up on there site just to get an idea of what they had vs what u were quoted. $300 was the cost of freight. So...around 1300 (minus tax) |
