Oilless Air Compressor motor ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I burned out my 6 hp Porter-Cable compressor running a D-A sander (note to self: don't do that again) and it was 2 months out of warranty

The compressor is a 350$ Home Depot or Lowe's type of operation, so it is not a high dollar deal, but does anyone know where i can get a new motor for one?

The local Porter-Cable service people want $200 to install a new one and will not sell a motor over the counter. It only looks like about an hour of labor, -- I would like to do it myself if i could get a motor for a c-note or so because it seems like a waste to throw this things carcass in the trash when everything is like new.

When my pile of crap craftsman oilless takes a dump im gonna buy a nice hig dollar one and turn the old carcass into a storage tank...

thats exactly what i did now it works better than when it had a motor and pump assy on it and its a hell of alot quieter too

look for the parts in a WW Grainger or McMaster/Carr.you should be able to get it up and running fairly cheap.

I will never own another oil-less POS. If yours is like the one I had, the motor has a special shaft installed in it so you can't just throw a run of the mill motor at it.

I actually dug an old craftsman compressor out of a dump so I would have a seperate motor and a seperate cylinder. The tank was rusted out and all of the fittings were worn out but I had enough stuff laying around that I was able to get the old boy running, and the best part is I can turn it on and carry on a conversation standing right next to it.
