boy, thats the truth --- When i was in the planning stages of my 30' x 40' garage/loft, i thought to myself --- "This is going to be the perfect size - not too big, not too small" -- after filling it with 2 full size truck projects, a 150 sf weight room, and miscellaneous other motorcycles and tools, there is no room for a lawnmower (not that i want to look at one anyway) -- i dont even have room for my wife's DD and she has to park it at our old house.

I can definitely see the need for another 30' x 40' (or bigger )to use as a dedicated shop within the next 5-10 years

I'll attach a current pic of the downstairs space tomorrow if i can remember. Its nothing too special, but it keeps me out of trouble

I am actually living upstairs full time now -- plans are to build a house next to it, but i have to sell another home and a piece of property first. Only one bedroom, but with no kids, its not too bad

wow you could live out of that garage and do it comfortably. Really nice. You lucky dog, and that goes to every one.

EDIT: Sometimes i just don't read everything, now i see you say your living out of the upstairs, now thats a better way of living above the garage, lol.

Thanks for the compliment! The idea for the place came from the Clive Cussler novels. His main character lives in an apartment in a corner of an aircraft hangar he leases at Dulles/DC airport. Roughly 1000sf of the giant hangar is supposed to be his apartment and the rest is devoted to his collection of antique cars and other vintage memorabalia

I couldn't afford a hangar (and i'm a few miles from the nearest airport), but the garage is my loose interpretation of that concept.

My only complaint is that every time i wake up, my wife is - still there (actually she is the one that made me finish it nice --- i would have been happy with a big metal shop building and a bedroom and kitchenette in the corner--- oh to be single again)

Re: Shops / Garages

This is my shop. We have a two car attached garage so this one could be all mine. BUT, the kids like to play on the concrete pad, so I have to share space with the kids toys and bikes. I think I can suffer through it though.
