Question I need garage storage shelf plans

I need to get all the clutter in the garage organized and want to build a storage shelf. I've got ability, the necessary tools, but am lacking the knowledge or plans on how to construct it. Here's an example of what I'd like to build but I think I need a bit more detailed or better layed out plans. http://www.lyons42.com/GarageShelvesJan2001/index.html
I want to build it up to 8' wide, about 6' tall and 3-4' deep. Two 4' wide shelves would be great too.
Can anyone here set me up with a good set of plans and mat'l list?

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

Sounds like you know how you want 'em. I bought some cabinets cheap, painted 'em white. Find some used stuff and redo thats the cheapest way.

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

My wife got tired of the way our garage looks, so she bought me cabinets from
Lowe's by Coleman. Sad to say it still looks like it did, now I just have more

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

I can't do cabinets because of the type of stuff I need to store (irregular shape car parts, etc.)

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

I built these last spring. No plans though. Just started building. They are pretty handy but I wish I would have made doors over them to hide the junk. Maybe next spring...

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

brad, just look at his photos in that link and try to do it like him.
I would add a little more bracing though... That rear verticle beam seen over his elbow, I would put one in the front too, and then run an added support underneath the shelf from front to back on that line. Car parts get heavy quick.

Just don't pose like this guy and look like a tool... you're too cool to be like him!

As mentioned, that is a great site Brad. You can get deeper in the hole of debt their faster than I think I can here.

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

corn, I can hide those 6 hole slots for you. ya know, as a favor.

I have shelve like he built in my basement. we store all the holiday decorations on them.

in my garage I beefed up the rafters and stuck 3/4 plywood up there. all kinds of storage space now. you can use bicycle hooks to hang truck hood from the ceiling and doors from rafters.

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

An easy way to hide all this stuff when your shelves are done is to hang that fake turf carpet in front of them. Hang it like curtains, and then you can slide it out of the way when you need to get into the shelves. If you use a brown it hides dirt very well.

Re: I need garage storage shelf plans

Here's what we did in our shop. Made the shelves just big enough to hold storage tubs. They are suprisingly close to being standardized. Most of them are about the same size. Sorry for the crappy pic, but its all i had on my computer.
