Speaker Fitment and Window Bar/Stop?

Hey guys while I was down at NADC looking at my truck I noticed that I might have a problem with my speakers. There is a pic of them below. I had them patch the square hole on my driver's side door and put a hole for 6x9's at the same distance that the passenger door, which had a hole for 6x9's already. CONFUSED? Well I measured the distance between the edge of the door and the window bar and it's 3 and 1/4 inches. There's no way I can fit my SWEET 6x9's in there now.

Can I knock that window bar back? Also I'm going to ask if they can patch it and I'll cut the holes where I want them. The problem is that my friend who got my truck in down there wasn't there. Another guy told me that they could patch it, but I risk the problem of there being a lot of filler(I assume he's talking about bondo) and if the door gets slammed a lot it could crack.

Do they make anything I could possibly put over that bottom section that would look good. I have metal door panels so I don't think that the carpet will look good.

Sugguestions or Advice?

I don't see why they cannot patch that. I think that it is already painted and they don't want to go back a fix this. So he is feeding you some bs so they don't have to do it.

Are you sure those speakers won't interfere in other places of the door also? They make low profile speakers...those are wicked sweet, but ... they look really deep in the picture.. If the crank is in the way right there, it seems like either the window or the mechanism that holds the window would get in the way.

I just pulled them out of the box and measured them. Surprisingly they are about 3 1/2 inches deep. So maybe I could just knock that thing back a little. My main concern is the seat being in the way of the sound. I probably just need to ask them to patch it and cut the hole closer to the front. I'm putting 2000 chevy buckets in so I'm not sure where they will sit in there but I"m sure they will be blocking the speaker.

Here's a few more pics of the speakers. I can't wait to hear them.

I have 6x9s right where you have that hole now, in my 70. Not sure if they're as deep as your new ones or not....but mine don't interfere with any mechanisms.

Question

The metal bar in your passenger side door pic, is the down leg for a factory window stop. You could stand a chance of bending the stop at the top of it, allowing your window to come down to far and fall out the window track at the bottom? Just my $.02.

If it interferes you could always find a tasteful spacer to put betweet the speaker and the door. I could image that you would have to bring it out that much. Maybe a piece of aluminum cut slightly bigger and the same shape as the speaker. Just a thought.

With the tweeters in that speaker, I would think you would want them further forward anyway so the seat doesn't interfer with the sound image.

bouncytruck,

that's what I'm thinking. So I'm going to ask the guy in charge of my truck on Monday if he can patch it and I'll cut it myself.
