Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

I guess I'm lucky I ended up with really good mother in law. It took getting married a second time though.

Hey Jared good to hear from you again!! What are you doing? Surviving our tropical weather I hope. Thanks for the compliment on the truck. It sure stirs up a lot of controversy using that bed.

I think no mater what anyone does with their vehicle that is a departure from stock some people will not like. Some people don't like it if it stays stock either. That's the beauty of hot rodding, it's yours and you can do whatever you want to it.

Besides, isn't it fun to tick off the purists?

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

I got to do a little work on the truck tonight. I was able to install Jeep Cherokee door checks. It went well. I picked up a pair of them for 10 bucks but I had to pull them. Here is how it went: First picture is the broken door check. The second is the Cherokee door check.I went ahead and kept the nuts and the pointed roll pin. The third picture shows how easy it is to bolt up. Last picture shows it installed. I really like it because it has now has 2 checks as it closes and seems to be heavier duty than the original.

I was also messing around with some wheel and center cap combinations. See what you think. I kind of like the last one.

I like the last one too. Just don't put the white walls out, it makes it look like a grandma's car.

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Well I finally got the battery for the camera and I'll try to stay up to date on the progress. I have gotten most of the bodywork done and am on my second coat of feather fill. I rolled on my first coat and what a mess. I'm spraying it from now on. Got the windshield out and hope to get the new one in this week.

Looks good spud like the rims. Don't you love body work. Make sure to buy some little brushes and clean your gun out good or you won't have any fun next time you good to spray.

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Thanks for the advice Dave. I try to keep the guns clean. Have had bad experiences in the past. I used one of Harbors cheap guns so that it won't mess up my good gun that I use for the color coat.

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Well I finally got it painted Saturday. It went pretty well for a garage paint job. The wind was light so I left the door open and it turned out okay. I had help from my family and that sure made it easier. See what you think

Looks great Spud. Way to go. Is that just a single stage paint?

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Thanks Dave. It is single stage. The paint guys say that with black, go single stage to cut and buff. It will look deeper. I used crossfire paint and was quite pleased with it.

You have balls to paint it black and shiny black. I'm glad I picked flat. That was about all my skills could handle.

Looks good! How much longer until you can bring it to Cruize Night and show it off?

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Dave it isn't perfect by any means. But it is okay and I'm happy the way it turned out. I figured I could always scuff it up an put some satin clear on it if it was too bad.

Jared I didn't know you guys were still doing the cruise. I think it will probably a month or so before I get it presentable.

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

What did you have problems with the body work or spraying the paint? Did you put your front window in yourself?

Re: Spud Truck's 66 Budget Build

Well I thought I had the body work pretty good. The doors have some waves that show up in the right light. I did get get some orange peel( It was too pretty warm that day) and a little dust. I planned on doing a cut and buff and that should take care ofmost of that.
Yes I put the windshield in myself with the help of my brother. It was a pain!!
