Big brown

1986 4x4 long bed. Rode hard and put up wet. Title shows 1/2 ton...but is has 8 lug wheels?

the good, 500 miles on complete motor rebuild, and about 6K worth of receipts

the bad, looks like terd left in the bowl over night

the plans

repair AC
somehow get an overdrive transmission?
Dress up under the hood a bit
new bed, tailgate, fender and hood (previous owner + loose fan = awesome)
6 inch lift
35-37 inch tires
18 inch wheels
fresh paint
bumpers and trim
haul boat and bikes!!

BTW, I am gong to ask a ton of question, I have had bagged square bodied burbans, dually's and minis, a few jeeps and a couple of superduty's...but nothing like this

enjoy

this place seems pretty cool, no bashing if its baggged and boddied or if its lifted two foot with 53's

A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

Re: Big brown

That's awesome! I love the rendering. Sounds like good plans for it. Really doesn't look as bad as you made it sound.
And yes, this place is great. Many different styles of trucks, many types of owners, but we all get along for the most part.

I think your going to have trouble with those driveline angles annd I would go with a less agressive tire tread.

Re: Big brown

I dont know why red-necks weld bumpers. When I bought my 86 longbed 4x4 3/4, the bumper was welded on, it was also so rusted that even when my friend hooked is 75 to it, his truck couldnt even pull the bumper off. Ended up cutting it out in little sections.

Re: Big brown

I love the rendering, that is awesome. It's good to have a plan for a project like that.

I had an '81 blazer that was the same main color, but with white instead of tan. In 1991, there was a beautiful black and gold Blazer in teh dealer brochure. My old man had the bright idea that adding black to a bunch of leftover paint would turn it all black. I bought the gold for the lower color, and mixed the rest. it ended up doo doo brown, too. Not only that, but it was impossible to match when it got hit in the door.

Re: Big brown

Couldnt decide on painting it tan or brown, but I love the hood rides...and didn't want to spend 2 grand in paint for a truck that will stay outdoors 100% of the time. I have about $80 in material so far.

Material, not shown is tan camo paint and semi gloss white (spray bomb)

Went to auto paint store, got a pint of black and a pint of brown, 180 grit and 320 grit, roller, brushes, aircraft stripper, the liquid gold is for the hail dents on the hood

new old fender, during air craft stripper

bust out the sand paper

black single stage paint with hardner...I am no painter, just found that out Friday

one coat black

Re: Big brown

Roll the brown, This is more like the primer that shows through

sprayed with camo tan, and a mist coat of white...kinda like a guide coat, that adds depth

soapy wet sand with 320

I have about 30 min of wet sanding to go. The black needs to show trough more, where the sun hits it more, if that makes sense. I got the idea from trucks last weekend, I can not take all the credit. I just changed the color from blue to tan. I am not 100% sold on the tan, but we will see if it grows on me

Re: Big brown

It is looking pretty good. Nice job on the "patina". I would like to see wider shots of it all on the truck. But it looks good up close.
