Re: Anyone running this? TCI lock-up kit for 700R4.

Might just have to hit you up some time. I have been sporting my short bed in town but might park it till the temp is down a bit. Got to love the Casa Grandes dehydrated rain. "Just add water!"

So I did a bit more testing. I replaced the radiator and installed some new fans. Motor temp is 195 and tranny in running 175. This is running hard in the AZ heat.

Looks good!

From past experience, that fan thermostat will let you down at the worst possible moment. You may want to upgrade.

Thats good to know. This is the first day running it. I will soon be adding A/C so when I get ready to do that I might just make it run all the time. Any ideas on a good unit to upgrade with?

Re: Anyone running this? TCI lock-up kit for 700R4.

I have a 86 700r4 that seems to have a bad 4th since it doesn't ever shift from 3rd to 4th. I think the last guy might have messed it up some how. I read that 4th can go after a rebuild or if someone doesn't have their TV cable right.

If I run the 700r4 in "D" instead of "OD", will it let me get by without having the lockup cable hooked up? I have heard that 85 and up will not burn up, if you run without lock up, but I wish I knew for sure. I like it how it is and it drives like a turbo 350, but I am wondering about excessive heat and wonder if that excessive heat is only when TC spins in 4th? My solenoid only clicked once and is probably bad, which is another reason im fine with no 4th.

Re: Anyone running this? TCI lock-up kit for 700R4.

I made my own setup. Ran fused ign on +12 thru a dual brake light switch to one side of the TC lockup solenoid and the ground side to a normally open 4th gear only pressure switch. Also tapped into the ground side with a wire running under the dash to hook up to a switch in the event I want the lockup in 3rd. So far works great and only cost me about $25 to do it.
