Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

The range was $50 for just a rough cab to $800 for the prime rare stuff. It`s a tough marketr these days, obviously. But,I had one guy roll in late friday after most spots covered their stuff up.I had just squeezed alime in my Corona with somw buds a few spots down and noticed a guy looking pretty hard at them.I walked over and making a long story short,he spent $700.When I was packed and cruising the grounds I got a call from him asking if some others got sold, and they hadn`t.I`m supposed to meet him Wednesday up near there to sell him more.If I wasn`t so bushed and burned out, along with overworking my one armed self (dislocated shoulder) I would have gone to his house not that far from the event.Let`s just say the truck was strategically packed and for all I know some trucks he wanted were way up front.I hope he doesn`t back out.I could use the dough.
I sold all my models (that weren`t trucks) and alot of Hotwheels, mostly.

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

I hope you sell everything that you want to sell. I dont think he will back out specially if he called you asking for more. I have only seen one guy downhere that had alot of older toys like tonkas, nylint etc..The reason why I asked how much they go for I was wondering if the guy down here was in line as far as prices...
good luck!!!

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

Thanks for the props, man.Hey Al,Just point some out and I can give prices.I have been out of it 10 years or so.Prices were sky high when I got out.I knew it all back then. The market has changed and I used seat of the pants technology.I was told by those in the know my prices were about right.I`m not giving them away, but I feel my prices were soft to sell some. The economy is poor, but that doesn`t affect antique values in my mind. They are still a rarity. There is just a narrowed market.I had some say they should be cheaper because of the economy.I told them if you are considering buying toys or hundreds of dollars the economy obviously isn`t hurting them.maybe they should be buying groceries with their money,if they are so concerned about their money.

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

I think you hit the nail right on the head Tim.
This "Recession" ... I think is only hitting a selected few... well quite a few "selected few.
Myself, we've lost a couple of customers and sum have stayed on as clients but have cut back. On the other hand, since New Years we've still p/u an equal amount of new clients. Oh !!! BTW I'm in the Res and Com. Cleaning business.
The economy is poor, but that doesn`t affect antique values in my mind. They are still a rarity.
I totally agree. Recession or No Recession.. A rarity is a rarity, if you want it you will have to pay for it.

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

Yup.If you`re hurtin`for money, what the "f" are you looking at these toys for.I actually said that to this one big baby that I wouldn`t give his bottle too .I meet one at every show.Kinda makes it more interseting.Don`t get me wrong,I was on a social high all for 5 days.Kinda sucks coming home.

Hey,do you like those Ertl 1/24 scale Peterbuilts?I collected some of those and I think they are pretty cool...tilt nose and all.Kinda hookie with chrome slots for wheels. But,I got over it,plus big singles came out. So,they aren`t that far off anymore.

Funny you asked.
I was just looking around last nite for a new collection of Big Rigs and match p/u truck Diecast. Looking through these thread here has inspired me

BUT these trucks have to look proportional beside each other. I was hoping ERTL had Big trucks (transports) and P/U trucks in 1/18 scale but they don't
I may have to look more at the 1/24 and 1/25 scale Diecasts

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

You know, now that I think about it,they aren`t 1/24.The wheels and tires are what they use on pickup and van 1/24.They are prolly somewhere between 1/28-1/30?The truck is 21 1/2" O.A.
Here`s one from my collection:

The nose is diecast and flips open to show a chrome motor. They are an inexpensive "filler" for a collection. The go back to the early`80s I guess.

Re: Vintage Pressed Steel!!

If you go to All Trucks I`m at B17-19.I won`t bring the toys, though.I`ll probably be driving my white`72 GMC.It`s the first full row of vendor spots from the show field, between gate 2 and the grandstand.Just hanging out and selling a few parts.
