Which gears for my setup - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

New here, figured now time to ask a question.

I got my 1969 C10, Im running a 327 at est hp 375-400, and a th400. (1st 2.48, 2nd 1.48, 3rd 1.00) And a GM 12 bolt. The question is what tire size and gears should I run with a 2/4 drop. I want mild, street/strip. And have a shot at 15 mpg highway. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

and a 3.73 gear would be good for street/strip i think, as far as tire size maybe something like a 28in or so tall tire

I have a 70 long wheel base fleet with a 454 (500 hp), th400 and I just went went from an open gear 3.08 to a 3.73 limited slip Auburn unit. What a huge difference in performance. I plan on purchasing a gear venders unit for the cruise ability. I'm sure if you went with something similiar you would not be disapointed. By the way, I also have a 2/4 drop and plan on going a little lower in the future, love those ground sleds. Good Luck.

375-400 HP from a 327, WOW. Thats a mean 327.

if it's an honest 375 - 400 horse, you'll need the 3.73 to keep it in the power range at all... and forget about 15 MPG, you'll be more like 8 - 10 MPG
If it's a more reasonable 300-ish, then I'd go with a 3.07 gear myself.
Even then, 15 MPG may be too much to expect.
