Finally getting ready to weld up the center seam of the hood. I have the hood adjusted pretty much where I want it. One question - should I have the springs attached to the hood when we weld it up or should I leave the springs off?

Based on Hogfarm's idea, I think we are going to weld the center seam of the hood then use high strength panel adhesive to bond a 5/8" strip of sheet metal to fill in the indentation in the center of the hood.

As much as I like Hogfarm's truck there is just flat too much blank space on the front of these trucks when you weld the seam and smooth it all off. His is probably the most perfect example of doing that too.

Welding the seam should be done very carefully....or you WILL have a warped up mess...

If you are gluing a strip in anyway, why weld it at all? There would be no warpage then. If you glue the strip in, The edges of the strip will show up in a while when the truck is parked in the hot sun. I have glued a strip in years ago, Worked great but the edges of the strip will be visible eventually

I consulted with Hogfarm and he suggested welding the center seam and then bonding in the strip. If my hood looks half as good as the hood on Hogfarm's truck I will very happy

Yes sir, finally got it welded up two days ago. We went back and forth on welding versus panel bond for the 5/8" strip of sheet metal and in the end we decided to weld it in. So we welded the center seam, then welded the 5/8" strip of sheet metal in. Worked out great. No distortion at all. Took about 6 hours to get it all done.
