How about another 'high load' orange/white highlander?....needs some work but a pretty good price and some great options!

Be interested in nailing this down as original trucks continue to support the fawn door & bezel being correct for highlander plaid optioned GMCs.
I spent some time yesterday investigating the inside of my glove box door and I can say with 100% certainty that there is evidence of shiny beige paint revealing itself underneath the black. The door was painted at some point in time (perhaps when the truck was new) to cover up the beige. The SPID was then retyped and placed on the inside of the door. The re-typed SPID shows some age perhaps indicating that this modification was done earlier rather than later in the trucks life.

I wish I could say the same for the gauge bezel. There is no evidence of it ever being beige. Of course it could have been replaced rather than painted at some point. It looks like these bezels where manufactured all in chrome and then the face painted black or beige over the chrome. In these pictures you can see the fine paint line between the black and the chrome.
It looks as though your theory is correct for these plaid GMC's. Not that I am interested in changing it back to beige, but do you have any thoughts on what the color code this would be for the beige?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I also wanted to add that its nice to see another Oahawa built truck especially a plaid one. Rusty_67, it looks like our trucks are 9755 units apart. Mine was built in May 1972. Plaid GMCs now seem to be revealing them selves more on this site. It would be nice to see some more.
Very interesting thread!
Thanks
Larry

Ha! I was really scratching my head about the "clear" UO1 lamps.. always thought they were amber. Then I saw the space... CLEAR ANCE. Had to chuckle. Nice truck btw.

That was an unexpected turn of events, not finding beige/fawn paint on the cluster bezel. Wish I had an answer but without more Oshawa samples its pretty had to do more than speculate. But to generalize there is much stronger support now for the Highlander plaid GMC's to have had the same glovebox and cluster bezel color as the parchment trim trucks than when I srated my reearch. The color itself should be a Dark Sandalwood (Ditzer 233374???)and if needed I can take my door in for color matching.
Thank You very much for taking the time to dig into your vehicle.

No SPID but here's a plaid seat with trim, two tone, and Custom badging. Not mine, semi-local to me... I dig it but not shopping.

Thanks for posting the link! Agree that sure does look to be a factory 611 Blue Plaid Highlander Custom Deluxe/10. If someone should get the SPID please post it.

Actually than might very well be a Highlander Promo Package "C" (YG8) truck. The White visors and seat belts (?) along with a Black dash and column support it being an original Highlander. The promos are noted for including the belt molding as stand alone side trim. Without seeing a SPID its hard to say. Agree the plaid there isn't factory but it may have at one time had the 604 Gray Plaid or 611 Blue Plaid in that nice looking 523 Dark Blue Custom Deluxe/20.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Hey guys really enjoy following this thread, ok back to the GMC highlander subject, Tim about a month ago I saw a 4x4 GMC that was on Craigslist CA. What I thought was odd were the instrument panel and glove box door were both brown/fawn color you keep talking about. The truck was green ext and int. I thought to myself why the heck would someone choose that combo but now I'm thinking this could have been a highlander GMC. The interior also had black dash pad. The paint inside looked original. Wish I would have screen shot that for you just my 2 cents.

Daaaanz67,
I think I saw that truck, and might have downloaded the pics. I will check when I get home from vacation and post here if I have them.

Found what looks to be a C20 Highlander for sale. Med Olive with a factory aux tank and tool box (at one time) by a motivated seller.

oh man, I gotta move to the NW.... Coley, that is NICE. Pete, I don't know how you do it. Anyway, that is a very nice truck. Reminds me of the white one I passed on because it was the longhorn, big block, cousin of my white 72. STILL wish I could find the white Scottsdale C20 longhorn I passed on. For $4500... Ugh. But, the K20 search continues...

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Knowing how I like solid paint trucks, Already Gone sent a link to a very nice 1/2 ton Highlander up in WI. It is a nice example of solid Dark Olive/Avacodo Highlander though somewhat incorrect. Being a YG8 it had the PA1 wheelcovers and DG4 mirrors as delivered. With a repaint (BC/CC?) and completely incorrect mirrors I don't see it going for the asking. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ws...100764878.html

The owner is a member on here...I think his name is 72 Highlander

The truck has been on CL for the better side of 8 months now...I'm thinking he's on the high side too.
