The 6.2 has the exact same bellhousing pattern and the motor mount locations as the SBC and BBC.
This is an old thread, but just thought I would correct the record. Chevy and GM trucks started offering the Oldsmobile 5.7 diesel in 1978 for half ton trucks only. First one of the "big three" to bring to market a light duty diesel truck. Last year for the olds diesel in these trucks was 1981.

And on top of that, the olds 350 diesel was not loosely based on the gas motor, is was largely based on it. Diesel 350 blocks were used for gas 350 drag motors constantly, its was a HD/race type casting compared to factory gas 350 blocks.

Re: Olds 350 vs Chevy 350?

I have had jet boats with Olds engines. One even had the 350. It ran pretty well, for what it was! I was surprised. I have a jet boat now ('74 Tahiti) with a built 455 Olds. It pushes that boat along at 62-65 MPH, which takes quite a bit of power in a boat with a jet pump! I'm in the process of building a 496 BBC for that boat. You can pick up big block Olds engines out of boats for dirt cheap. One on the Phoenix Craigslist now, that the guy is asking $600 for. I'm sure he is planning on settling on $500. I want to re-purpose my Olds 455, because it runs SO good! It has been built up a bit. There is a set of aluminum heads from Summit racing or Jegs for $1,200, that I really want to try.

I have an old Toyota Land Cruiser with a tired old 4.2l 2F engine. I was thinking that the Olds torque monster would be a fun engine for that rig. I'd need to yank the tunnel ram and swap camshafts, but thats easy. People talk about Olds engines like they're boat anchors, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with them.
